Event Review: New Covenant album launch

The new covenant album launch by Elder Francis Agyei went down yesterday, the 16th of December inside the dome of PIWC Kokomlemle and it was a major success by all standards.

The event was powered by Media Excel, the label to which he is signed on and it hosted several other major gospel music giants like the recently celebrated Elder Dr. Kwasi Mireku, Ohemaa Mercy and Bernice Offei.

The only downside to the event was the usual problem typical of most Ghanaian events. Time.

The scheduled time on the bill was 2pm but unfortunately as at 2:30pm, sound check was still on going but it eventually proved not to be an issue as most of the people in attendance arrived two solid hours behind the stipulated time.

On the other hand, the venue itself was a plus to the organization of the event as it had exceptional sound already fitted by leading pro audio company, Upswing Music and one of the best sound engineers in Ghana at the moment, Johnson of Wavesonic Studios, handling the sound.

The comfy chairs, fully air-conditioned dome and 3 already fixed led screens also contributed to making it a choicest venue for the event.

Ushering and artiste coordination were also on point as it was one of the very few gospel events one would attend and be served with bottled water while enjoying performances from a line up of talented guys who know what they are about.

It’s necessary to also applaud the performance of one budding gospel music act, Paa Sammy, on his apt delivery in opening the show as he ministered several indigenous gospel classics tailored to suit the age range of majority of the people gathered.

The real deal unraveled as the evergreen Bernice Offei took to stage and got everyone nostalgic with a memorable delivery of her hits, ‘Hold On’ and ‘Life is Short’.

Talk of the new breeds of Pentecostal worshipers serving under their paragon, Elder Mireku and names like Braa Kweku and Emmanuel Arthur would be mentioned. They graced the alter with their intricate worshipful deliveries with intermittent interceptions from Elder Mireku during each of their ministrations in a bid to serve as a catalyst to the spiritual potency of their vocal ministration.

It could seem to an unfamiliar person as an uncultured and undisciplined act on the part of a legend who should know better but Elder Dr. Mireku pays no attention to physical protocol. He acts as led by the Spirit and it was just what everyone gathered needed to charge up the atmosphere to another level.

You should have seen him. He was all over the place and surprisingly, the effect of his interruptions were rather constructive and propelling, than it was an obvious distraction.

The moment then came for the headline artiste to minister. He started off with his own back to back worship songs that date back several years and got the entire congregation swayed away in what seemed to be the satisfaction of a genuine hunger for some good old spirit-filled and unadulterated worship, rare in these times.

In re-affirming his title as a pioneer by introducing the South African style of music to Ghana in his hay days, Elder Francis Agyei shook up the place with praise songs like ‘Yesu Fayla’ and ‘Ayilele’ so much that there wasn’t time enough to even sing a few songs off his latest album.

The entire sitting was moderated by Kwamena Idan who brought a decade of experience In radio and events presenting on board and executed a great work in raising funds and making the event a success.

The fundraising moment, after an intensive prayer session over the neatly packaged CD’s by various Men of God In attendance, saw the first copy being sold for GHS 30,000 in the form of a land being gifted to Elder Francis Agyei by an anonymous fan.

The chairman for the night, Rev. Cephas Kpegah Tamakloe, also did his due by dishing out 1000 dollars and GHS 5,000 as well as promising a re-launch of the album in his over 10,000 member church on the 30th of November to compensate for the poorly attended event.

The mother of popular secular female songstress, Wendy Shay, was present and also purchased her copy of the album as well as Stacy Amoateng of Restoration TV, Akumaa Mama Zimbi, Ohemaa Mercy, Israel Ofori, and a host of other artistes and celebrities that came to grace the occasion.

Apart from the issue of the poor attendance, lack of punctuality and the fact that only one artiste out of the 7 published acts on bill, was actually in attendance, the entire event was a general success and we are looking forward to an even larger re-launch at the Breaking Yoke Ministries on the 30th of December, 2018.

Till then go grab yourself a personal copy of the New Covenant album and worship your worries away.
