Event Review: 2017 4syte Music Video Awards

Over the weekend the 6th 4syte Music Video Awards was held at the Accra International Conference Center without a headline sponsor.

This sounds strange, so strange that even someone who is not into entertainment events will wonder why a big event is sponsor less.

It sounds more strange when the very moment you hear that the awards is without a sponsor is the actual first time you are hearing the awards is actually being held.

With little or no promotional plan in the organisation of the measly attended event, the awards scheme is gradually losing its prestige in the country.

This thought is much evident in the time the event started. Publicly advertised to begin at 7pm, the 2017 4syte Music Video Awards started after 11pm.

The organisers might have done so when they realised that the numbers that were in the hall as at 8pm weren’t enough to hold the event. As at 10:30pm the artists and audience were still stomping to the venue.

The attendance at the event was extremely low when compared to previous editions.

The gaps in the seats wouldn’t amuse any event organiser let alone 4syte.

The stage set up at any event organised by 4syte has always been super and this year’s was no different as the stage screens beamed with colours of the national flag before the event started.

The BHIM logo was all over the screens when the event was opened by Stonebwoy with a performance which generated a standing ovation from the audience.

The BHIM nation leader emphasised the need to support Ghanaian music when asked to say a few words by the host Jay Foley.

Other performances followed after stonebwoy from Scatter Bada, Praiz and Wutah. Quite to the surprise of many, the performance of Bronya by the music group was done by Wutah Kobby only.

VVIP wouldn’t let Miyaki perform without letting everyone know how old and talented the young kid is. Miyaki has the talent and is very fortunate to be signed by the legendary group.

Three artists came on stage with dancers, Mr Eazi’s dancers had everyone on their feet yes but it was Becca’s dancers who outshone all!

The dancers made the transition from Becca’s performance of Summyε to Na Wash a very wonderful one. The lights were out for Ebony’s entry onto the stage and when they came on everyone saw what they knew they were going to see.

Ogidi Brown performed before later Boggieman did a wonderful tribute in memory of Terry Bonchaka. Bonchaka’s mom was in attendance.

When the speakers blurted out DJ Mensah’s jingle, everyone knew Sarkodie was in the hall even though he wasn’t advertised to perform. Fresh from Dubai the rapper performed to a very receptive audience.

The connection was there and the energy from the audience was spontaneous. Sarkodie had just surprised everyone and even the event organisers withthe artist giving the reason for the surprise was to support 4syte.

King Promise and B4bonah had their sessions as the new generation wasn’t left out of the performances before Toofan did all.

The Togolese artiste gave out highly charged energies which the attendees duly reciprocated. His performance was a befitting end to the 2017 4syte Music Video Awards.
