Event Review: Great performances, average production at Becca concert

When Becca announced that she will be celebrating her 10th year in the music industry with a mega concert, every one couldn’t wait for that day.

With the days leading up to the Unveiled Concert (as it was named) the performing arts, which comprised mainly of chart toppers, were made public.

Stonebwoy, M. I., Mr.Eazi, Ice Prince, Kumi Guitar, Obibini, Joyce Blessing and many more were billed to perform.

Doubts were raised over the long list of artists but there was still that urge to see them perform when the commencement of the show was pegged at 8pm.

So everyone got into their party wear and headed for the National Theatre on Saturday 21st October to witness Becca’s concert and to party hard.

I’m sure the patrons would have almost taken the party hard mantra off their minds when the show started two and a half hours late than advertised.

They needed to be convinced beyond all doubts that the show will be the party they had anticipated, lo and behold the Lynx Entertainment crew did exactly that.

Opening the stage with MzVee singing her name with a super-duper band blasting away live instrumentals, the Lynx trio wowed and got everyone standing with performance after performance which culminated with almost everyone lip singing to ‘Odo’ by KiDi after Kuami Eugene had proven that ‘Angela’ is indeed a fan favourite.

Becca, glowing in her outfit trudged onto the stage to fantastic heart warming applause from the gleeful audience before starting her performance with the best of her earliest songs.

When you thought the event was about to live up to its billing, a 30 minute break followed Becca’s performance. This is even after DKB came onto stage to do well what he is known for.

No one will sit in a hot air filled room for no apparent reason so the audience gradually filled out of the auditorium to seek fresh cool air.

Most of the concert goers who sought to get the air they lacked inside and found outside returned to their seats in time for the next performance.

VVIP gave their new 16year old recruit Miyaki the opportunity to perform in front of a large audience for the first time when they performed ‘Koliko’

After Ice Prince and Becca performed ‘Steady’ the next performance has got to be the best performance by the Nigerian legion.

M.I. was totally on point with his delivery, interaction with the audience and above all didn’t mime. He did ‘No Away’ together on stage with Becca before leaving great memories for everyone.

Patoranking was still in the glasses he had in the picture with Wizkid that made rounds early in the day when he started his performance.

He did ‘No Kissing’, ‘My Woman’, Becca’s ‘Na Wash’ and Bisa K’Dei’s ‘Life’. He tried Bisa K’dei’s dance moves in the Life music video to several chants, shouts and cheers.

We were already in Sunday when Shatta Mitchy came on stage in her red apparel. She kept looking in a direction anticipating someone we could only guess should be Shatta Wale.

You wouldn’t be wrong as the dancehall artist appeared on the National Theatre stage to perform together with his wife their tune ‘Low Tempo’ and no other song again.

Another break…

The stop start nature of the event was threatening to suck away the fun being experienced. Kwabena Kwabena was graceful in his allotted time period when he performed superbly with the band.

The stage set up by the event organiser’s Zylofon Media was flawless. The LED screens, the lighting everything on stage was superb except for Wande Coal when he took his turn on stage.

The Nigerian artist is not the same person who was rocking stages in this country; he was way below par with his performance. Way below!

Well before Wande drab moment, Akwaboah gave a feel of his great vocals charming almost every female heart in attendance. Sarkodie later joined him on stage in his white tuxedo to hum away ‘Mewo’.

Stonebwoy’s entrance was ground stomping and chest thumping as he exuded great energy much alike to a victorious king returning from a well fought battle. Stonebwoy shut down Becca’s concert.

The surprise artist of the night who flew in all the way from London on a charted flight’s performance was almost a sing-along by himself and the audience to DJ Spindall’s decks.

Wizkid was shining in his yellow and blue clothes and the crowd couldn’t help than to love it. They sang word for word as he also ad-libbed in a thrilling session that left everyone exhausted.

Now, throughout all of these performances Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings the First Lady in the 1st and 2nd republic of the 4th constitution of Ghana was seated throughout and had not danced!

No one had moved her enough to warrant any of her legendary moves. This challenge was duly accepted and executed by Lagos based artiste Niniola.

The Nigerian artiste did so well that she got Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings dancing in her first ever performance in Ghana. Google and check her stuff out; her name again is Niniola.

The time was past 3am Sunday dawn when Bisa performed followed by Joyce Blessing.

The crowd by then had had enough, so when it was Mr. Eazi’s turn to perform the Ghana based Nigerian artist was performing to half of the concert attendees. Half!

The organisers had just one thing to do to save face and to let the show be remembered for the performances only; end the show.

So after 3.30am on 22nd October the Becca Unveiled concert ended with the other announced artists not performing because there was simply no one to perform to.
