DJ Quaye fights radio DJs & presenters

One of Ghanaian finest DJs, Emmanuel Quaye, with the stage name DJ Quaye, has said it is illegal for disk jockeys (DJs) and radio presenters to collect money from musicians before playing their music on the radio, night club, and pubs.

According to him, in Ghana today, musicians do not earn much and survive only on live shows so; it is unfair for presenters or DJs to collect money from the musicians before promoting their music.

DJ Quaye who has close links with hip-hop rapper Sarkodie and afrobeat musician Papi of 5Five fame said “Right now, we are just doing music just for the sake of the fact that we love to do it, there is nothing else we can do apart from music so DJs and presenters show desist from extorting monies from musicians before playing their music on the radio”.

DJ Quaye is currently working on a number of mixtapes and compilations which he has plans of featuring Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Amakye Dede, Prince Bright, Ofori Amponsah, Raquel, Kyrmi, Vanilla, Strongman, and Stonebwoy, added that radio DJs and presenters have manipulated the music industry to the extent that the musician has to pay payola before his or her music could receive airplay. This, he said, has really crippled the music industry, forcing a number of music producers to quit.

DJ Quaye is ever ready to help promote Ghanaian music on the world market and believes the time has come for him to show the world the kind of stuff he is made of.
