Afia Obodai Afrakomah set to launch “Rock Of Ages” album

Afia Obodai Afrakomah has been one of Ghana’s fastest rising gospel musicians in the last few years.

Her latest release, ‘Rock Of Ages’ currently enjoys considerable patronage in churches, Christian gatherings and also on radio.

‘Rock Of Ages’ is a simple worship song that talks about the greatness of God and extols his awesomeness.

The album “Rock Of Ages” which has six amazing songs namely ‘Dom Berema’, ‘Yi Mame’, ‘Emere Pa Mu’, ‘Rock Of Ages’, ‘Thank U Baba’, ‘Woma Wonsa Soa’ and instrumentals. “Rock Of Ages” wouldn’t come as a surprise should it gain the majority of nominations at the VGMA’s come next year.

Afia Obodai Afrakomah is an intensely spiritual young lady who believes that gospel music should centre on Christ and her message of reconciliation.

“Jesus is the reason for our being. He’s the only reason why we are called Christians. It’s always an honour to sing about Jesus for Jesus and touch lives through Him. I am a product of the grace of Jesus and all I can do to show my gratitude is to declare Him to the world through my music,” she told this reporter.

Throughout the album, she stresses her admiration and love for God for the abundant grace He pours on her life.

“I cannot explain my joy as I recollect what I went through when I decided to do music. There were severe challenges and I nearly gave up but my God reigns. His will has been done and I cannot help praising Him,” Afia told us.

“Rock Of Ages” album will be launched on Sunday, May 30th, at the Madina Central Christ Apostolic Church in Accra.

Guests artistes scheduled to also perform at the 11.00am event include, Nii Armah Tagoe, Patience Nyarko, Rose Adjei, Minister Frank Franky, Sammy Young and Nyameba.

Though this is Afia Obodai Afrakomah’s debut album, she has been singing for several years and she shows the accumulated experience through songs in the highlife, reggae and slow worship formats.

Her fine vocal renditions in English and Twi are ably supported by a trio of backing singers comprising of Florence, Proph T. T. and Papa Arkoh.

The songs were recorded and mixed at Wereku Of Rhythm Africa Studios & Merger Of GAZA Studio in Accra.

A video based on the album’s title track has already been shot and has started getting airplay on some television networks in the country.

Afia believes she has what it takes to succeed on the gospel music circuit anywhere and tells everyone to savour her singing prowess on her album.

From infancy, Afia’s passion for doing music pushed her to joining a choir in her church, though she’s been through series of challenges, she thought it wise to hold on to the Lord believing him for a miracle and low and behold, the lord was faithful to her.

When asked about her readiness for the competition and challenges ahead of her, the gospel musician stated that, she hasn’t got any competition with anybody and is ready for any challenge at all.

“There is no competition in doing the work of God, if God blesses you with a gift, just follow his direction and no matter how long it might take, it will surely come to pass”. She urged Christians to be very strong in prayers for it is the only secret weapon they have against the enemy,” she said.
