Meet DWP Academy – promoting Ghanaian music through dance

DWP Academy is a group of youths with the talent and passion of dancing to impact society.

Remember your regular SHS dance superstars? Well, some actually have broken through the status quo and evolved into turning their extraordinary talents into a lucrative career by establishing the Dance With a Purpose Academy (DWP Academy).

A group of young men with the purpose of making an impact on society, shocked their families and friends when they decided to make dance a career.

Ernest Kwablah (Quables), Laud Konadu (DancegodLloyd) and Nicholas Botchway (Afrobeast) delved straight into their passion, dance, right after school although they were faced with backlash.

Speaking on The Gist with MzGee, Ernest Kwablah said the team wanted to prove to the society they can do more than just white-collar jobs and still make an impact on people’s lives.

“It was a big decision we all had to take. I studied publishing at the university and I do digital marketing but this is my passion. For us, if we can make an impact and inspire people to strive harder, this is worth it,” he stated.

With their game on, they have featured in countless music dance videos of both local and international artistes including Stonebwoy, King Promise, Shatta Wale, Medikal, Mr., Eazi, Wizkid, Patoranking, Eugy official and many others.

Training to dance was taking a bigger role and the team felt they needed to change the focus and create a bigger society.

“Young kids who had seen us dance began to look up to us. Some picked us for role models, that was when we decided to create Dance With A Purpose (DWP),” co-founder Quables told MzGee.

He explained the aim of DWP was not only to inspire and change the narrative of dance but to also create a haven for kids on the streets who had an interest in dance, basically giving them an aim to push through their hurdles.

“We started with Regina. Now she is making money off her dance and getting her school fees paid for free,” Dancegod Lloyd explained.

From a group of three, the DWP community has expanded to include people of all walks of life, who want to build on their dance moves or begin a journey with dance.

“We want to build a huge dance studio and a dance school. DWP is going to change the dance game. There are so many people out there who need something or someone to push them. It’s all about what we can do for somebody,” he added.
