TiC shares an amazing story of his journey to stardom

Tic Tac was the go-to artist for the youth in the early 2000s after the nationwide hit of his debut Philomena song.

The Millenials will remember him for his dyed-polka dot hairstyle whiles the rest of will reminisce about him when we hear his numerous hits including 2003’s ‘Kwani Kwani’.

Today Ghanaian rapper, Tic Tac now rebranded as TiC, has shared an inspirational bit of his journey to stardom which commenced with a breakout hit feature on Azigiza’s “Woye Bia” song.

TiC reached a wider audience when he was featured on the hit song, “Woye Bia”, by the one-time multi award-winning best DJ, Azigiza Jnr. now a fully-fledged Reverend minister of the gospel.

He recounted how he was playing gutter-to-gutter in Dansoman- a suburb of Accra, when a passerby informed him of an ongoing video shoot of a song he had been featured on by the infamous Azigiza at Lipolips night club.

According to the multiple award-winning rapper, he stopped playing and immediately went home, bathed and rushed over to the scene of the music video shoot in a determined and desperate mood.

He had to force his way to appear in the music video of a hit song he had been featured on and yet sidelined during its video shoot which had the potential of going far and making him well known in the music industry.

He had the talent, but his brand wasn’t good enough to rub shoulders with the likes of Azigiza as at that time but he wasn’t ready to let a life-changing opportunity like this slip away.

In his own words he advised, ‘sometimes you would not be called but you would have to find a way to grab your destiny. Be inspired’.

Apparently, after that episode, collaborations with big names by then such as Slim Busterr and Daasebre Gyamenah followed.

In 1999, TiC released his debut solo album, Philomena, which spawned several hits. “Menka Bio (Shordy)”, a single from TiC’s third album, Masem, topped the Ghana music chart for 22 consecutive weeks in 2002-2003, which was a record at the time.

The launch of his fourth album, ‘Wope’, was one of the largest ever in Ghana.

It was groundbreaking for the Hiplife genre in that it featured several major international stars, including Freddy Meiway from Côte d’Ivoire on the title track and Tony Tetuila of Nigeria on “Fefe n’efe”, which sampled Fela Kuti.

His fifth album, Accra Connection, featured collaborations with Sway DaSafo, Rhian Benson, D’Banj, and JJC. In 2018, TiC dropped a new single named Kwani Kwani (Part 2) featuring one of Ghana’s current biggest exports in the music industry, Kuami Eugene.

TiC has performed internationally, alongside artists such as 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Kanda Bongo Man, and Buju Banton. He is currently known for hit single Kwani Kwani (Remix) featuring Kuami Eugene.
