DJ Mark Charles talks sound management at events

DJ Mark Charles, one of Ghana’s finest turntable giants, has mentioned sound management at events as one major challenge most official DJs of artistes face in the industry.

Speaking to us, DJ Mark Charles suggested different disc jockeying set-ups are made available at events, to help curb the issue of who controls what equipment at events. “One major issue DJs have with event organizers is sound.

Sometimes you go for a show and a DJ will tell you not to use his set or players. Maybe we need to get a different set-up for the main DJs of the day, as well as another for the DJs of performing artistes,” DJ Mark Charles stated.

He went on to add that, although prices for disc jockeying equipments are exorbitant, he always makes it a point to take with him his personal controllers in case of any unexpected situations.

According to DJ Mark Charles who doubles as the official DJ for the sensational Hiplife trio, Guru, even though they pre-select songs for a performance, the mood of the crowd sometimes prompts him to make slight changes to the playlist. “Guru gives me the go ahead in circumstances like this, because they believe in me. I’m more or less like the captain of their performances. Sometimes they don’t even know the songs I’d be dropping, but when I do, they just perform to it,” he disclosed.

DJ Mark Charles further advised some of his colleague disc jockeys to quit interfering in the performance of musicians with their scratches. Rather, they should concentrate on making the musician’s act and the whole show a success.
