Meet SSUE; a versatile Nu Soul artiste reaching for gold

SSUE, born Serwah Susan Amoakohene to Ghanaian parents in the United States of America, is obviously one of the most gifted Ghanaian musical revelations of 2018.

She is inspired by the joy of creation and sings with real feeling and a wonderful touch. SSUE is just about to shake the very foundations of music in Ghana and the rest of the world with her succinct brand of “Nu Soul” laced perfectly with the percussive sounds of the African beat.

SSUE is a Lovely, dedicated and focused Artist, a talented young modern African songwriter and composer with a lot to share and say through her music and lyrics for her generation and kindred souls alike.

She moved to Ghana when she was four and later went back and obtained a degree in Marketing and Finance from the University of Maryland.

SSUE worked at various jobs but could not get music out of her system and eventually settled full time for it after considerable deliberation. “I have always known music to be my prime passion but I wanted to fully convince myself that I was ready to devote the required attention to it,” SSUE says.

With her warm personality and trendy words relating with ease to her life’s experiences as she lives it, she’s growing into a beautiful role model to watch out for!!

SSUE performs her own songs which she infuses the percussive African rhythm with the raunchy RnB, Soul to sultry Nu Soul-Jazz which she powers with the ease of a strong voice. To create what is now known as Afro pop – An African phenomenon gone global rather than a western variant going global.

She has performed at an Afro-Jazz concert headlined by Okyerema Asante and pianist, Benito Gonzales, at the African Regent Hotel in Accra and had a feel of the international scene when she sang in Paris and Cannes, both in France.

She has successfully done collaborations with impressive acts like Pat Thomas, Teddy Osei of Osibisa, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Immanuel Emmanuel, Dela Botri, Ben Brako, Paul Bilson and Steve Bedi.

Her associations with Teddy Osei, of Osibisa fame, and Hugh Masekela, African jazz legend, have had a strong influence on her and not forgetting that of Bibie Brew the Ghanaian French icon, her voice coach and mentor.

SSUE is confident of the future and is glad to be gradually getting the attention she knows she deserves. She has indeed arrived for the long haul.

Ananse Band was formed to be the band for SSUE beginning of 2018. Made up of individuals with an average of 6 years experience.

JAZZ of SSUE is an expression of her versatility as an icon in the music industry. SSUE is the latest sensation to hit the live performance stages of Ghana and the emphasis is on live performance.

As a well rounded artist, she delivers a well-crafted and mature performance reminiscent of the Soul Divas like Gladys Knight and Bridgewater to the Nu Soul of the Sades Alicia Keys to the polyphonic rhythms of an Angelique Kidjo rolled into one explosive artiste.

Often addressed as a working dynamo, SSUE packs her performance with strong vocal power and awesome dance routines.

Her mixed version of Osibisa’s FIRE, released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Osibisa featured Teddy Osei of Osibisa and Black Up a young Ghanaian rapper based in the U.S, is a masterpiece worth hearing.
