Entertainment critic Nii Offei Dodoo, has described Shatta Wale’s plea to be part of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards as fake and insincere but a sure way to get nominated on BET awards.
According to him, the plea to Charterhouse by the self-acclaimed dancehall artiste in an attempt to settle the beef with the Iyiola Ayoade, the CEO of Charterhouse is not genuine following certain comments made at the just ended GH Meet Naija 2017 such as “only Bola Ray pays him well” and “nobody can bring him down”.
In an interview on the pundit hosted by George Quaye on GHone TV, Shatta Wale made a ‘U-Turn’ and pleaded with Charter House to add him to the VGMA awards following a backlash after his close contender, Stonebwoy earned nominations at BET awards 2017.
Shatta Wale’s fans got furious at the consistent non inclusion of Shatta Wale at the BET awards and took to social media to express their disappointments.
This plea comes after broadcast journalist, Nana Aba Anamoah in an interview with Berla Mundi on Rythmz made a case that “a VGMA without Shatta Wale is an empty glass” and got the entertainment media discussing the issue. He described the plea by Shatta Wale after Nana Aba Anamoah’s statement as a mere PR gimmick.
“So, if the plea is genuine and sincere, it should have been on the Ghana Meet Naija stage or on all interviews granted to the media after he pleaded on George Quaye’s pundit show,” the critic added. He also said there were instances where he, Shatta Wale organized an event on the same day when VGMA held in an attempt to reduce patronage of the most prestigious music awards, VGMA.
VGMAs thrives on content from musicians and there will always be popular music for the VGMAs to use in their award scheme and Shatta Wale has also lost out on international recognition literally and even though he has earned massive hits and have huge followers.
His plea to Charterhouse against the backdrop of Stonebwoy’s 2017 BET nomination comes after a huge outcry from his fans which does not just add up. Shatta Wale has apologized before and later asked not to be added to the VGMAs. so what has changed?
Shatta Wale is a big artist locally and his participation on the previous VGMAs could have created more excitement and cash for Charterhouse but he refused to support the scheme.
Even though charterhouse have done their very best to keep the scheme running, the event with Shatta Wale could have been more exciting.
