impetus for the tourism sector by creating a popular event
that has something for everyone, Becoming an important revenue
generator for the commercial city of Accra by stimulating
the local economy, facilitating the sharing of divine national
and international cultural approaches to the Christmas and
New Year festivities.

endorsed the annual Accra’s Vibrant Street Carnival
as an important contribution to the attraction of Ghana and
the sub-region this year. The carnival also enjoys the support

Carnival
2003
The
Carnival has been a huge success since its inception with
an estimated attendance over the two-day period of over 750,000
people. The Carnival now has the potential to grow into the
biggest tourist street event in West Africa. The event represents
grand and accessible entertainment for the people of Ghana
and for foreign visitors.
Traders
enjoy a tremendous income boost over a usually slack period
of expenditure after Xmas. A safe, clean and joyous environment
that has no history of major incidents, the overwhelming response
of the public been to create an even bigger and better Carnival
for 2003. Ghana’s carnival is unique and tremendously
rich in culture.
Foreign
visitors and visiting Ghanaians from abroad have been highly
visible throughout the two days. The organizational capacity
of the Project Executive Committee is of extremely high quality
and professional standards in order to stage the Carnival
successfully in less than four months. Hundreds of people
also contributed to the Carnival in contributing as volunteers,
providing entertainment at a free or reduced price and in
supporting the organizational efforts of the Committee. In
co-coordinating this innovative large event the Committee
met every objective they set out to achieve. We expect to
go from strength in 2003 Carnival.
