A new album by atenteben virtuoso Togbui Ehadzila Dela Botri will on Friday, April 20 be launched with an irresistible concert at the Alliance Francaise in Accra.
World acclaimed ethnomusicologist Prof. J. H. Kwabena Nketia, who has been supportive of the musical career of Botri, will be the special guest of honour, with Kwame Sefa Kayi as Master of Ceremonies.
Titled ‘Naa Ayele’, the 10-track album is a dramatic fusion of contemporary highlife/kpanlogo, zouk and salsa rhythms that have been harmonized to create a new sound.
A 14-piece band put together by Botri will perform at the concert, which will feature hip life artist Klala and Maame Esi of TV 3’s Talented Kids Show.
The album forcefully exposes the power of using cross-cultural rhythms and its ability to create a new synthesis while equally helping to promote Ghanaian rhythms.
Botri, who has four albums to his credit, has performed and held workshops in Togo, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Guinea, Mauritania, Benin, South Africa, Algeria, Jordan, Holland, Curacao, Norway, Finland, the United States and others.
Last month, he teamed up for a performance with the acclaimed Malian balafon virtuoso Keletigui Diabate in a captivating concert at the Alliance Française in Accra. This followed a 10-day workshop in Bamako, Mali.
‘Naa Ayele’ was recorded at the Atenteben Studios and mastered at Freddima Studios with Ben Nketiah and Fred Kyei Mensah as engineers. The concert is being supported by Institut-Francais, Alliance Francaise, Kosmog Collections and Woodin.
