The search for the next biggest rap act and that star to make a case for Ghana in the world of Hip Hop music globally begins this weekend. Come Sunday March 25th 2012, hundreds of amateur rappers will converge at the Royal Lamerata Hotel for the Kumasi auditions.
The Lamerata Hotel auditions present all talented and gifted amateur rappers within Kumasi and surrounding areas the opportunity to enter the competition to realize their dreams of becoming a mainstream rap star.
The Next Big Thing is an all new music talent hunt reality show on Television targeted at exceptionally talented amateur rappers who rap in English or any local language and possesses what it takes to be the next big thing in GH Hip Hop and beyond.
Rappers who want to be part of the auditions must text their names to the short code 1765 on all networks to be eligible. The auditions will witness a panel of judges constituted of seasoned music professionals who will put the amateur rappers through a series of drills.
There will also be a segment for freestyle acapella before rapping over preferred and general beats to find out who makes it into the competition proper. After the Kumasi, there will be auditions in Takoradi before the last audition in Accra.
Rappers who qualify from the auditions gain admission into the Boot Camp where they will engage each other in rap battles to reduce the number to 24 for the semi-finals stage. 12 rappers will be eliminated and the remaining 12 victorious rappers will continue with the Boot Camp.
In what is referred to as “Off Stage Tasks” to include photo shoot, design of Album cover and recording of an audio track, 2 candidates will be eliminated to bring the number to 10. They will battle for the ultimate at the grand finale.
The ultimate winner walks away with a recording contract in addition cash amount and guaranteed shows.
Also, the winner will enjoy overwhelming promotions on Gh-One Entertainment TV and other media platform.
The Next Big Thing is a GH-One Entertainment TV initiative and will be live on the station.
