Amateur musicians from all over the Continent have earned their chance at musical immortality by winning through to the final of the My Video contest organised by MTV base and Zain as part of the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain.
MTV and Zain received thousands of entries for the special award category, which was created in 2008 to engage young musicians in the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain. The pan-African talent search challenged amateur musicians to show off their hidden singing skills, with each finalist chosen after submitting short video clips of themselves to the MTV judges.
The finalists are:
Congo: Patricke-Stevie Moungondo, Fotheir Natinique Nkounkou, Miraline Loussilahana
Ghana: Daniel Angelo Remi, Jemima Nyame, Anita Akuffo
Kenya: Julia Mumbi Thaitai, Antony Mwangi, Robert Rajoro
Malawi: Arthur Nkhoma, Bleek Chindime, Grey Longwe
Nigeria: Blessing Okamgbuan, Chinyere Uju, Oyelakin Babatunde
Sierra Leone: Sonia Faisal, Esther Michael, Rosaline Strasser-King
South Africa: Ayanda Chiliza, Jerry Luyanda, Gabby Sadi
Tanzania: Abel Aisaia, Vanessa Bernard, William Otuck
Uganda: Richard Kawesa, Kiwanuka Bonny, Susanne Aniku
Zambia: Debra Phiri, Kigutse Thoka Kazhila, Faith Sichinga
The finalists now stand a chance of winning their very own ‘MAMA’ trophy and a trip to the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain on 10 October alongside musicians such as Lira, M.I., Samini and Wahu.
