After a weekend of magnificent performances by Ghanaian and European musicians, the Accra Jazz and World Music Festival continues this weekend with another set of shows by groups from Spain, France and Ghana.
Over the weekend, Quattro Fusion (South Africa), African Sound Project (Ghana), Eric Legnini (France), Ebo Taylor, and Asabea/Eugene Cropper (Ghana) mesmerized jazz and world music lovers in Accra.
Gyedu Blay Ambolley will on Friday, October 8, mount the stage with a group of Ghanaian musicians to perform several tunes from his rich repertoire. Gyedu Blay, who has performed in the United States and Europe, is expected to showcase some of his recent compositions.
Atenteben virtuoso Dela Botri and his friends will open the show for Gyedu-Blay with a couple of tracks they composed during the first edition of the Accra Jazz and World Music Festival in 2009.
On stage with Botri will be guitar sensation Ackah Blay, who has just returned to Accra from a tour of Denmark, keyboard wizard Opoku Ayim, bassist Umar Baba Ahmed and percussionist Frank Kissi.
They are poised to showcase the power of blending local and western instruments.
Archimusic Ensemble from France will take their turn on Saturday, October 9. Known for their collaborations with singers, poets, actors and dancers, the group will be on stage with two dancers of the Noyam African Dance Institute, which is based in Dodowa.
Also on board is Alex Mensah, leader of Tsooboi Ensemble and young poet D.K. Osei, who has been creating waves over the past few years. Archimusic would be merging various types of music including jazz, classical and contemporary.
The festival ends on Sunday, October 10 with the magic of Fran Molina, who will lead a group of musicians in showcasing Spanish Flamenco Jazz. Molina, who has performed in several countries, comes to the festival with a wealth of experience.
The Accra Jazz and World Music Festival is being sponsored by the Alliance Française, French Embassy, Spanish Embassy, European Union, Stanbic Bank, Lufthansa, Spedidam, Novotel, Bollore and Guinness Ghana Ltd.
