Many Ruff-N-Smooth fans around the world were surprised and even shocked that they did not get even one nomination at this year’s MTN Ghana Music Awards Festival slated for 9th April this year. Some wonder why their songs such as ‘Mona Lisa’, ‘Sexy Machine’, ‘Azingele’, and ‘Time Changes’ couldn’t be selected by the Planning Committee of Ghana Music Awards.
Nii Hammond, a member of the Planning Committee of Ghana Music Award said that the whole matter is simple and straight forward. “The committee members considered the song, ‘Azingele’ for the Afro Pop category. But when it came to the ponit of short listing, their song was not as strong as the other ones they were competing with”’, he said.
Nii went on to point out that “’Mona Lisa’, ‘Sexy Machine’, and ‘Time Changes’ where released as singles by Ruff-N-Smooth last year and also got nominations but it was only ‘Azingele’ that was considered and was in contention”, he continued.
When the GMA nominations were released, the Afro Pop category had Jay Ghartey (My Lady), R2Bees feat. Wande Coal (Kiss Your Hands), 5Five (Move Back), Samini (Sweet Mistake), Eazzy (Wengeze) and 4x4 (Miss Doctor) featuring in it.
Media manager at Charter House, Juno A. Turkson was also on air at Joy FM yesterday and said that it was a matter of choice by the committee to unselect their songs and other areas such as their lyrical content for ‘Azingele’ could be part.
Bola Ray, the manager handling the Afro pop artistes declined to speak on this matter and told Ghana Music.com that he has given them to mandate to grant interviews to any media house on this matter.
Ruff-N-Smooth told Ghana Music.com that they intend to keep performing and working hard.
