Few days after winning the flagbearer position of the opposition National Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo is once again beginning to draw the admiration of key Ghanaians musician as he did in the 2008 general election.

The first prominent musician to publicly come forward and declare his support for Nana Akufo-Addo is the most admired crooner Kwabena Kwabena who last weekend told an Accra based radio station that as he did before, he was putting his weight behind NPP presidential candidate to win the 2012 presidential election.

Kwabena Kwabena’s political declaration was despite the outcry by fans and the general public in 2008 that the fortunes of such musicians could be negatively affected when it became evident that Nana had lost the election.

Those who joined the campaign train or composed songs for the NPP included Josh Laryea, Ohemaa Mercy, Christiana Love, Noble Nketia, Kwaku Gyasi, Phillipa Baafi, Soul Winners, No Tribe, Gifty Osei and Lady Prempeh among others.

When Showbiz contacted Kwabena Kwabena via telephone on Monday, he re-emphasized his stance to support Nana in every way “he is someone that I support, have admiration for and endorse as having the capability to lead the country to greater heights. There is no doubt that I’m happy with his re-election as the flag bearer of NPP”, he said.

Pressed by this reporter to explain how he was going to support Nana, Kwabena Kwabena said, “I don’t belong to any political party but I will gladly support any individual whether he or she belongs to CPP, NDC, PNC or NPP – who is equipped with competence to run our dear nation.

“This has been my advice to the youth, that they should look beyond political parties, and mature in their political thinking in order to identify able men and women who can realistically bring about progress in Ghana”, he said.

He went on to say that Nana can be identified with traits that identify him as the man for the job, at least in his estimation, adding that “if you look at his track record, it is evident that he’s played significant roles in shaping this country and has been around for some time now. I have my reasons for admiring him; I think he can do a lot for this country”, he said.

Recounting the aftermath of the last election and whether his involvement affected his career in anyway, he gave a chuckle and said “it didn’t affect my career in anyway but my action showed how patriotic I am and the fact that we live in a civil society where people have the privilege to express themselves without intimidation.”

Shifting the chat to his musical career and whether his fans should look up for any gigs, Kwabena Kwabena hinted that he is busy with a few projects including a nationwide tour, a foundation to support under privileged children, which is still on the drawing board.
