“I am a mother of five and I know how challenging it is to be a mother.
The challenges of motherhood I encounter have made me more than ever value my mum and all those who have and continue to play the role of motherly figures in my life.
Anytime it is Mothers’ Day, I feel a special type of joy because I get an opportunity to celebrate all my mothers who have helped me reach this far in life,” award-winning gospel musician, Herty Bongreat told NEWS-ONE.
Not many people know that Herty has five children but she does. She has five young children- four girls and a boy.
The eldest is nine and the youngest, two. She is married to Reverend Daniel Ofori Bongreat, General Overseer of the Great Kingdom Family Chapel, headquartered in Adenta, a suburb of Accra.
“In Ghana we wait for our mothers to die before buying their corpses the best cloths and serving the best meals at their funerals.
Sometimes, our mothers have never tasted the type of meals that are served at their funerals and this is a shame.
We must have a renewal of mind and of heart and start to celebrate our mothers while they are alive and can see and appreciate it rather than wait for them to die before we throw large parties and buy expensive coffins,” Herty advised.
Herty won the Discovery Artiste of the Year at the 2011 Ghana Music Awards (GMAs).
Sounding like a pastor, Herty said it was a biblical obligation for all persons, especially Christians, to honor their parents.
“The bible says it in black and white that we should give honour to our parents so that it shall be well with us.
Meaning if we do not give honour to our parents, it shall not be well with us.
Therefore, on such special days like Mothers Days, when we have an opportunity to honour our mothers, we should do our best to show a special appreciation to our mothers, not only our biological mothers but all persons who have played motherly roles in our lives,” Herty added.
She is currently in the studio working with Sarkodie on a gospel track collaboration.
