Ghana’s afro pop singer, Rebecca Acheampong, also known in the music scene as Becca, has been honoured by the Women’s Commission Department of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), University of Cape Coast (UCC) branch, for composing a song to empower African women.

Becca was honoured at an awards ceremony dubbed ‘UCC Ladies Heritage-Ghana & Awards Night’ held on February 10, 2012 at the school’s main auditorium.

Other prominent personalities who were honoured were Professor Nana Opoku Agyemang, the first and only female Vice Chancellor of a University in Ghana, Professor Ama Atta Aidoo, a Ghanaian-international female playwright/novelist, Chief Justice Georgina Woode, the first female Chief Justice of Ghana, Joyce Bamford-Addo, the first female Speaker of Parliament in Ghana, and Nadia Buari, a renowned Ghanaian actress who supports disadvantaged children in Ghana.

The Heritage Ghana Night is basically geared at preserving the rich culture of our motherland.

Again, other activities such as drama, poetry recitals, Inter-Hall proverb recitation contest and cultural/traditional dance performance were witnessed.
