Ghana's
Afropop music star, Rebecca Acheampong, aka Becca, made history when she won the Best African Prospect Award at the 2010 KORA Music Awards held in Ouagadougou, Burkina-Faso, on April 4.
Becca's win makes her the youngest from Ghana to have made such an achievement and the only Ghanaian woman to have won a Kora Award.
Kora's objectives are to promote African artistes and their works internationally, unite the African Diaspora through music and the arts, and also produce a world-class television show that portrays a positive image of Africa.
Kora Awards, a Pan-African music festival and awards night equivalent to America's Grammy Awards, which made its debut on the entertainment scene in 1994 in South Africa, was re-launched this year after a four-year break.
The high profile entertainment event is scheduled to rotate from one African country to another, according to initiator and organiser, Ernest Adjovi - a business tycoon originally from the Republic of Benin.
Although she was not present at the event, the award was received on her behalf by a close associate who witnessed the event.
The red carpet event which was hosted by the President of Burkina Faso, Blaise Compaore, at the plush Palaise De Sports in Ouagadougo, Burkina Faso, was a real success and definitely a night to remember.
Becca, the sensational artiste, also won two awards at the 11th MTN Ghana Music Awards held on April 10 in Accra.
The awards were Record of the year and Best Female Vocal Performance. She described that moment of her life as ecstatic and totally unexpected.
The ethereal beauty told BEATWAVES in a chat that she is grateful to all her fans who support her in her musical career saying, “I say a big thank you to my fans, without them I am nobody and I love them all”.
A cross section of her fans who spoke to BEATWAVES said Becca deserved everything and they expressed satisfaction at the turn of events.
Becca has managed to convince her fans that she is a star who can thrill music fans with spectacular performances at all times.
