A horde of celebrity friends and well wishers swarmed the ‘Sweetie’s’ Night Club at Airport Hills last Saturday night to hang out with songstress, Becca, and toast her on her 24th birthday which fell on August 15.

Not many twenty four year olds achieve what she has, and a smiling Becca, decked out in a sassy white and gold evening gown with a slit that showed off her gorgeous legs, looked every bit a star as she floated around the room greeting guests and taking to the dance floor to celebrate her milestone.

An invitations only private event, the party was a present given Becca by the City People Media Group, Nigeria, in appreciation of her works, talent and rapid growth in Nigeria, and saw such personalities as Ghana’s ace fashion designer Kofi Ansah, Nigeria’s top actor Ramsey Noah, Ghana’s screen beau Jackie Appiah among others in attendance.

The well turned out event also saw mid-morning radio hostess, ‘Cosmo Mix’ girl Doreen Andoh, MTN music icon Samini, as well as screen ‘bad boy’ Majid, among the pack of other showbiz personalities, all of whom wished the singer well and joined her cut two huge birthday cakes after Adina sang ‘Happy Birthday’ for her. Dereley, Nigeria’s foremost entertainment anchor was on hand to kick the party into action as he took to the dance floor and did his own thing.

When the microphone was handed to her, all she could say was a big “thank you” to all who have patronized her music, enjoyed her stage performances and particularly, to those present for making time to come celebrate with her.

Becca, since coming onto the limelight in 2006 following her infamous dropout from TV3’s ‘Mentor 2’ reality TV singing talent show, has earned herself quite a fan base after releasing her first chart topping hit single, ‘You Lied To Me’, the duet with Kwabena Kwabena released a year later. She has gone on since to release an album, ‘Sugar’, and has recorded with some fabulous musicians including one of Africa’s greatest music maestros, Hugh Masekela, and the UK’s singing sensation, Keisha White.

With a new single, ‘Eti Sen’, currently enjoying some airplay, Becca is set to burst onto the charts once again to woo more fans. She stage performance always captivating, in 2008, she was nominated for an award for ... at the Ghana Music Awards, which she won. She has also been nominated for ‘Best Female Africa’ at the Kora awards and the Channel O Award for Best Song; West Africa.

Knowing how much of a role model she is to young ladies across the African continent, judging from her fan mail, Becca, grateful for all the love and support, and not one to let all the success get to her head, aims to continue to work hard to live up to their expectations. Coming from a family of nine children, and being the first girl, she knows all about “taking charge of what you have got and making the most of it.“

The (rising) star, who started school at Morning Star Primary at Labone, attended Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast for her secondary education before going to join her mother in England where she continued at Alwin Girls, and Croydon College. At Croydon, she pursued a course in Child Care. She is currently enrolled in a degree program in project management at Greenhill College, GIMPA.

Presently working on the finishing touches of her second album, Becca is also planning a big concert in Accra to raise money for charity.
