Ghana’s first mobile music streaming service, Streemio, has been activated December 23, 2011 and officials say users of Blackberry, iPhone and Android phones will start enjoying the service in the first week of January 2012.

The music streaming service, provided by Streemio Technologies, a Ghanaian-owned company, is delivered via a mobile application that can be downloaded at m.streemio.com for free on most mobile devices with internet capability and decent multimedia features.

“We’re working to get BB, Android and iPhone up by 1st week of January 2012,” CEO of Streemio Samuel Owusu Darko tells ghanabusinessnews.com via Facebook. And it works on a range of Java-enabled devices.

Streemio currently has 80,000+ tracks from local and foreign artistes, giving users a large collection from which they can find their favourite songs, create playlists and discover new music.

The application company has indicated that per the agreement entered into with the Interim Copyright Management Team (ICMT) – a royalty collection body and the Attorney General, Ghanaian artistes whose music are used by listeners will get 10% royalty share of the gross revenue generated by the service.

The royalties will be shared with the use of data base which automatically calculates the songs listened to by users within a certain period of time.

Due to copyrights laws, it noted that songs on Streemio can only be listened to and accessed by users but cannot be downloaded because they don’t own the rights.
