Advice has been given to Ghanaian musicians especially the hiplife musicians who want to enter the world market for good earnings. This was given by a UK based African music promoter Steven Peake at the just ended MUSIGA forum held in its headquarters,Accra.

The forum was to discuss issues of interest to musicians.

Speaking at the MUSIGA forum, Mr. Steven Peake, who has been promoting African music since he founded his management company (Indigenous People) in March 1997, advised the youth at the forum to let their music portray the true Ghanaian and African culture rather than to copy the western culture because people over there have had enough of that and the only way to break boundaries is to be original, spiritual and have cultural identity.

Indigenous People is a non-profit cultural education organisation currently based in Brighton, UK that works with indigenous music and dance groups from Africa and elsewhere to raise awareness of the spiritual and cultural wealth of their communities.

Speakers at forum include the president of MUSIGA, Bice Osei Kuffour aka Obour, spoke on the topic “The Role of MUSIGA as a Union”, Rex Omar, spoke on the topic “Musicians and Royalties”, Carlos Sakyi, spoke on the topic “State of Copyright in Ghana”, Bessa Simons, spoke on the topic “Delivering World Class Performances” and lawyer Cynthia Dwomoh spoke on the topic “Handling Contracts”.

The forum was well attended by stakeholders in the music industry including event promoters, artiste managers, music distributors and season musicians like Tic Tac, King David, Ben Brako and Charles Amoah just to mention a few. The only all female band in Africa, Della Hayes and Dzesi, the women of colour band was there to entertain the audience with support from Santa Roses International band.
