A new reality show has been launched in Accra dubbed The Blind Talent Show under the theme; Our Talent Lies Within. The reality show is the brainchild of Mr Offei of Spring Consult.

The show which aims at unearthing talents in the blind was officially launched Friday at the Afrikiko, attended by media personnel and representatives of the Ghana Association for the Blind and the Musicians Union of Ghana.

Speaking at the launch, Kwesi Jonah, Head of the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana and the Institute of Democratic and Economic Governance and chairman for the occasion lauded the blind reality show innitiative saying the blind are a part of the society and we should not look upon them as different species.

He called on the general public to show concern for them and refrain from seeing them as a burden on society. He said rather, they are a pool of untapped talent.

Kwesi Jonah recalled famous artistes like Steve wonder, Ray Charles and Ghana’s Onipa Nua, who he described as musical gems, who are blind but have become great names in music.

He called for the implementation of the Disability Act saying the passage of the act alone does not mean their problems have been solved.

Other personalities at the launch; Ernest Kwesi Anim (MUSIGA), Justice Samuel Sackey (Ghana Union of the Blind) and Dan Tei Mensah all commended Spring Consult for bringing up the concept.

Mr Offei said he was inspired by a physically challenged but a very talented friend. With this insight he decided to bring out the reality show to tell the world that the blind may be challenged physically but can do a lot when given the opportunity.

Offei said the show will give opportunity to all talented but visually impaired and will not centre on one talent. This, he said will give room for the visually impaired who can sing, dance and do any other activities to exhibit their talent.

A nationwide auditioning for talents will start in August with the show itself taking place in October.
