Squadee may be the most under-rated and hyphenated Ghanaian hiplife group based in the USA.
Squadee who are based in New Jersey, USA have revealed to Ghana Music.com that they have plenty of upcoming projects to keep fans excited. Recently, Squadee just announced their new ladies single that will capture more music lovers when its released which features Bright of Buk Bak fame and Sarkodie.
We caught up with the two blood brothers, Ski Blaq (Nana Asare) and Jimmy Dorgan (Kofi Asare) to talk about their music business.
Ghana Music.com: When you log on to Ghana Music.com what goes through your head?
Squadee: We visit the site to keep up to date on the Ghanaian music industry. The website is as resourceful as worldstarhiphop.com but Ghana Music.com is of course a different genre of music. We feel a much deeper connection and enjoy all the latest tunes.
Ghana Music.com: Now that you are doing more shows outside New Jersey, are there musician/groups that you met that blew you away?
Squadee: There are definitely many artistes out here that are making major moves, such as Lighter and 2 Shy from New York , A.O and Freeman out in Canada and Koo Wiase in Kansas City to name a few. We respect their hustle and have also worked with them on a few new tracks which will be released soon.
Ghana Music.com: How long did it take for you guys to gel as a group?
Squadee: Being that we are both blood brothers, coming together as a group was not a challenge and from day one we knew that we would work as a team. As most siblings, there are times that we disagree on issues but we always bounce back and continue grinding which has helped to keep our relationship strong.
Ghana Music.com: How do you keep yourselves grounded?
Squadee: Our family and friends play a major role when it comes to keeping ourselves grounded. They motivate and support us to keep doing what we love and make sure we are focused on the future for our music.
Ghana Music.com: How’d you manage to get so many hiplife heavyweights like Sarkodie and Bright to all agree to hop on your new song?
Squadee: Last year when Sarkodie visited the states for his concert in August he needed a studio to record and Terry Masson brought him over to A8 Studios, which is managed by us. PEE, our producer in Ghana had already sent us the beat in preparation for Sarkodie’s possible visit. We played the beat for Sarkodie and he was feeling it and got in touch with Bright. The rest, as we know, is history.
Ghana Music.com: Now speaking on repping for New Jersey, give us a little back story on Squadee as a group for those not in the know?
Squadee: Squadee is a hip-hop/hip-life group that consists of two brothers Ski Blaq (Nana Asare) and Jimmy Dorgan (Kofi Asare). We are not only a rap group but can also be viewed as a movement consisting of a big family tree. Shout out to the family members E-Stackz, Omo-Naija, Kwame Kash, Buzanga, Slim Six, Dog Stone, Oheneba, Skilow and TeamSQ. We have been residing in New Jersey for almost a decade and a half but are originally from Kumasi. In 2005 we started rapping and have been perfecting our craft throughout the years. We are now ready for primetime and are also ready to display our talent and versatility throughout this music genre. We welcome fans to come join us as we embark on this wonderful journey. The new wave of Ghana hip-hop is here to stay.
Ghana Music.com: What’s been going on since your last released songs like Polo Check and more?
Squadee: After the crazy and supportive feedback we received from Polo Check, we are still working hard in the studio recording every chance we get. Many artists are also reaching out to work with us and that is a blessing itself.
Ghana Music.com: Now you have a couple collaborations that I want to find out more about?
Squadee: Yea we are currently working with several Ghanaian artists in the states, Canada and back home in Ghana. We have a couple of tracks with Lighter, our guy A.O from Toronto, Koo Wiase and 2shy.
We recently finished a track featuring E.L and will be releasing a track that we did with Nana Boroo very soon so stay tuned.
Ghana Music.com: So, what do you want people to get from you now and from what’s to come musically?
Squadee: Our real fans since day one should already know what to expect from us musically and to everyone else that’s tuning in now, we hope that they are ready for the new, unique type of wave that is about to storm the Ghana music industry. We are bringing new energy that has been missing in the music industry and our music will speak for itself.
Ghana Music.com: And to narrow that down, what’s one main message you want people to tune into?
Squadee: The different aspects and talent of Squadee that encompasses our love for music which will reveal itself through our songs.
