Nana Kweisi Bediako aka Nana B is the newest Gospel star whose name will be ringing all over the air waves and the internet on June 7th 2008. Growing up in Accra, Ghana (West Africa) as the second oldest of four children, Nana Kweisi lived in a house filled with music. His mother was a choir member at their local church.

Nana heard everything from Gospel legends; Kofi Abraham, Yabs, Kusi Berko, Rev. Eric Kwapong, Elija Saforo to jazz icons like Osibisa, great Highlife legend; Nana Ampadu, just to mention a few. Those different styles of music, as well as a strong presence in the church, helped to shape Nana as a singer as well as a person. When Nana was 12 years old, he started the Living Praise Youth Choir and Drama group at the Living Praise Bible Church (Kokomlemle).

He has great passion for Youth and working with children. Nana continued his secondary school education at Mfantsipim School where his music career jumped to a different level. There he joined the Joyful Way Incorporated (Mfantsipim branch) and became one of the lead singers in the group. He did learn a lot from the group and improved on his musical writing skills. He was also an executive of the Scripture Union and a Praises and Worship leader on campus.

In 1997, Nana traveled to the United States and joined the Apostolic Church (Royal Assembly) and again founded another music/drama group known as the Apostolic Instinct. He also became the Praises and Worship leader under the leadership of the Late Apostle Oswald Boafo who mastered Nana’s gift. Nana Kweisi and his musical group have ministered in many churches here in the US.

Nana Bediako is married to Linda who performed on his debut album; “Melodies From Above” and they have a beautiful daughter named; Jada. When asked why “Melodies From Above”? Nana answered; “Like the porters house, he took some clay, begun to mold and created a beautiful vessel. In this vessel he placed melodies from above and a symphony, which is heavenly inspired. That vessel is; Nana Kweisi Bediako and the Apostolic Instincts. Nana Bediako states that, all the songs are so inspiring and inspired by the Lord. It is difficult to choose one song as an album track.

Nana Bediako is the exuberant Psalmist with the trademark appearance; Nana B is more than a singer and his unpredictable gospel music is not confined to traditional styles. He sings jazz, africo with a blend of salsa, along with modern and traditional gospel. There are vibrant horns, great percussions and powerful saxophones by Boris, a renowned Jazz player in NY.

His single motivation in singing he maintains is to spread the gospel. In his debut album; “Melodies from above” he appeals to people of all ages and lifestyles, especially to those who might miss the traditional message. Nana B is not only a musical evangelist, but an associate minister of God in his own right. Nana Kweisi Bediako is an inspirer, who inspired the members of his group to believe in themselves, knowing that Heaven is their limit and that God has placed a unique gift in them. When you listen to these songs, listeners would be surprised to know that they have not been recording albums and in fact this is their first album. The writing skills, arrangements, and sound are unbelievable.

On this album Nana worked closely with two dynamic producers namely; Andrew Morgan (Ghana) and Benjamin Boafo (Best / U.S.A). They might be very new on the Ghanaian Gospel industry but they are about to become household names. These young producers did a great job on this album. This album was recorded both in Ghana (Hallelujah Studios-Accra) and in the United States (Sasu Bediako’s Studio). The mixing and many of the studio work was supervised by Elder Ken Appiah of Soul Winners and Sasu Bediako a well known Highlife singer in the late eighties.

Lord Wumpini, a Ghanaian hiplife artiste, will launch his second album on April 5 this year to further promote his campaign against social menace in Ghana and Africa.

The album, titled: “Second Chance”, aims at drumming home issues such as rape, broken marriages and guinea worm. The launch would take place at Tamale in the Northern Region.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Saturday, Lord Wumpini said apart from the quality and rich African culture portrayed in his video clip, the lyrics of the songs were clear and good enough to make listeners sing along. Responding to why he chose to sing on social issues, the Accra-based musician said it was his goal to create awareness, educate and influence the behaviour of society positively as well as promote African music to the rest of the world.

“It is our responsibility as musicians to talk about social issues that affect us negatively as a people because I believe that no other group communicates better to the youth than we do,” he added.

Lord Wumpini said musicians faced lots of problems in Ghana, because of lack of legal structures to guarantee the protection of their rights and interests.

According to him, the issue of piracy ought to be holistically looked at and addressed by all stakeholders in order to protect the music industry.

The artiste, known in private life as Mustapha Quansah, said it was time musicians came together to fight for their rights irrespective of which part of the country they hailed from.

Hiplife musician, Cambodia, known in real life as Kweku Boadi is set to take the music industry to a bang with the release of his second album titled, ‘Odja Tanaa’.

Cambodia first released his first project in 2000 title ‘Moja shie’ but could not attract the necessary attention because it did not receive massive airplay. Currently he is in the studio working tirelessly on the next album.

In an interview with Beatwaves, Cambodia said he believed that the current project would make a break-through this time and cause a stir in the industry since it was well-stuffed with fine tunes and lyrics.

The eight track album, he said, has pulsating songs such as ‘Abrabo’, ‘Toy’, ‘Rockly’, ‘Mr. Otua me tua aboka’, ‘Tokoro’ ‘Abogwi’ and two other tracks including the title track ‘Odja Tanaa’.

Most of the songs on the album were recorded by the Hollad Park studio in Accra.

“Messages on most of the songs touch on love and life in general. Wait till it hit the airwaves in no time from now”, Cambodia stressed.

The musician hails from Akyim Apenwa in the Eastern Region. He entered the music industry in 1990 and ‘Odja Tanaa’ is his second album.

The emergence of African-American splendour is possibly how one would describe her: Otherwise, she is the newest female hiplife and R&B music star whose presence on the scene will create panic among artistes such as Mzbel, K.K. Vidash, Abrewa Nana, Becca, Diamond and a host of other female artistes.

She is Vida Darko, better known in showbiz circles as Veeda.

She was born in Ghana, and had part of her secondary education at the Tema Secondary School, and later traveled to the United States of America where she had her tertiary education.

Veeda, who dreams of becoming a music star, began to develop her musical talent after her tertiary education as a back-up singer for certain top music stars in Ghana and the US, until she decided to work on her own musical album.

She told Beatwaves in a chat that since her infancy, music has always been her heart’s desire, pointing out that not only does she enjoy singing; she loves composing songs on current issues confronting society.

She disclosed that whilst in the States she had the opportunity to exhibit her talent by acting as a back-up singer for some prolific French singers.

She recently backed Yaw Sarpong, Francis Adjei and a few other artistes including contemporary highlife singer, Ofori Amponsah when he performed in the US a couple of years back.

According to her in 2002, she won the Miss Ghana-USA which pushed her into the limelight.

Now, she is groomed in everything, especially her voice which she is prepared to use to place Ghana on the world map.

With an R&B twist to Ghanaian music, the young woman who has such charming looks that could rival those of international stars like Rihanna, Christiana Milan, Beyonce and a host others, is putting together a multi-platinum album.

Her maiden album which has the song ‘Veeda’ as its title track, has a lot of danceable songs with good drum beats and choruses. She explained that it has a combining existence of Ghanaian heritage, global glamour and an absolute style. It combined hiplife, highlife and R&B music genres. This she said is to give her music a global appeal.

Indeed, interesting songs on the album include ‘Bribi Yaaye Me’, ‘Afifi Afifi’, ‘Ice Kenkey’, ‘Chechekule’, ‘Why’, and ‘Please Forgive Me’. Watch Video: “Bribi Yaaye Me”.

She featured four artistes on the entire the album. They are Baba Ashanti, Disastrous, Nickson and Red eye of 2Toff fame. Watch out for her pretty soon.

Reginald Anderson, known in the entertainment world as Kwasi Gem is poised to make a name for himself and has therefore stepped up his skills as a singer.

“Music is a talent given to me by the Almighty God”, he says. Kwasi started singing during his childhood and says he used to sing at different programmes, including Funworld and Kiddafest. Also, when he was in secondary school, he used to sing during entertainment and sometimes represent his school in competitions at various entertainment programmes.

Kwasi Gem decided to join the music industry when he completed Nsaba Presbyterian Secondary School. “It was Jamaican musician legend Sizzla Kalongi who inspired me to become a musician.

Studying Marketing at Trans Africa College in Accra, he aspires to be a marketing executive and musician as well. Asked how he will be able to cope with the two professions, he says “music will be my full time career and support it with another job.

His maiden album, Ghana Mbaa (Ghana Ladies) talks about ladies and fashion and it is a fusion of high-life and hip-life (contemporary high-life).

He is has been performing at various programmes at different regions, including Accra, Eastern, Ashanti and Central Regions.

As to whether his album is out, he said “my album is ready but I needs a producer to produce my music”. He is therefore appealing to producers to finance this which he believes will sell very well.

Touching on his most challenging times, Kwasi says it was really difficult from the beginning of his music carreer, especially for him to be discovered and get someone to realize his talent. Though by the intervention of God he now has a manager, the most important thing now is a producer to produce his album.

As to how he came by the name Kwasi Gem, he replied “gem is anything vital in society and as such, it shows how important he will be in the music industry.

He enjoys listening to Ghanaian music and Wutah is his favourite artist. “I really admire them on stage and their style of delivery” he added.

His advise to the youth and up coming musicians like him is “they should be focussed in everything they set out to do and with hardwork, perseverance and determination; they will surely make it in life”. Adding that they should never let the sky be their limit but rather go beyond the it.

Nnomaa has only one ambition which is to explore their God given talent of developing natural music. To them it is the bird that makes the best of sounds and they delight in listening to the melody it gives. This melody is what the group hopes to bring to all Ghanaians.

The pair, Spencer Boakye Adade and Emmanuel Amoasah who formed the group said they are just about to make their debut in the music industry but are optimistic of making it big.

“What our kind of music will do is to draw listeners closer to nature and that is what Ghanaians will love us for”, they told The Saturday Statesman in an interview.

They discovered their style by constantly listening to African and foreign music, especially high-life. “We appreciate Ghanaian music a lot and listening to it as well as foreign songs helped us to the study the music industry. From this we have been able to develop our own style”.

They started singing at a young age in church on Sundays and this gave them the inspiration they needed. Hip-life artist, Wutah is their idol.

The pair grew up in the same neighbourhood in Cape-Coast in the Central Region and were friends from childhood. Though, they went to different second cycle institution, they are looking forward to further their education and aspire to be video editors.

Nnomaa which literally means birds was adopted by the pair because “birds are natural creatures from God and anytime birds whistle, it is a form of music”.

According to them the music industry in Ghana is really big but it seems almost all the lyrics of the various artists reflects only on the positive side of the Ghanaian woman and it’s about time they touch on the negative aspects as well because every good thing has a bad side.

Nnomaa are currently under the management of 121 music production. Their music which is a blend of high-life,hip-life,gospel put together is not yet out but ready in the studio and need a producer to bring out their music.

For now, they have been performing at different programmes including Music Music on Tv3, Sound Splash of TV Africa and other notable places with the help of their manager.”We are looking forward to a producer to produce our music”.

Fans worldwide have their eyes on Realyz after watching his music video – “Mama Africa” premiered on Ghana Music.com and are waiting to see the outcome of his own solo album (Turning Dreams Into Reality) after his breaking away from his college music partners.

Realyz, a listener of Bob Marley will soon be battling head-to-head with gurus of the Ghanaian music.

Realzy has no confines to the genres of music, he says to us that he is a versatile artiste that “listens to soul music and the raw melodies of the reggae icon Bob Marley, to the untamed lyrics of rap music, the sanctified soulfulness of gospel and the secular emotional venting of the blues combining it with his own approach”.

Realyz also gave an insight about himself that he was once crowned a winner in a rap reality show in his Tema community which has pushed him into full gear even though his parents are not in support of his music career.

The street has responded by snatching up his latest “Mama Africa”, he did with Bandana. Bandana laid his verses well on the song. But now that his new song has got his fans on locked. Realzy is ready to reel with them to make the dreams materialize into realities.

Realyz is yet to start off fast but wants business minded people to reach him via email on kwesikwegyir@yahoo.com or 233 24 328 2959.

Patrick Tsoeke Agbodza, a trumpeter of the National Symphony Orchestra, is taking evangelism to a new level, by combining gospel lyrics with patriotic rhetoric and socio-political rap.

Patrick Tsoeke Agbodza, a trumpeter of the National Symphony Orchestra, is taking evangelism to a new level, by combining gospel lyrics with patriotic rhetoric and socio-political rap.

The master composer and arranger, who recently decided to take his music career farther than the horizon, envisioned Ghana’s 2008 electoral run and tuned his lyrical drive in the direction of what might happen if things go awry.

The young and ambitious choirmaster of Global Evangelical Church, Community 4, Tema, makes good use of his horn-blowing and trumpeting skills to give a good account of his debut album ‘Give Thanks’ which was outdoored in some churches in Tema and Accra.

The seven-track sensation also features ‘Dekaworwor’ an Ewe rendition meaning ‘Forging Unity’. There is an African Unity song simply titled ‘African Music’ and yet another African masterpiece ‘Homeland Africa’.

On a sentimental note, Patrick gives lease to one beautiful melody, ‘Have a Nice Day’ before flowing in beat and rhythm with ‘The Surprise’. Ending this danceable album is ‘My Saviour Lives’, a real evangelistic mind-blower.

Talking to ‘Spectator Arts’ after the album’s outdoor at the Community 3 Global Evangelical Church, Patrick Agbodza said the CDs which are being distributed by Mobisco at Kantamanto in Accra, came into being when he decided to liberate his musical skills to the benefit of society and the kingdom of God.

He said he needed a marketing manager to get the album to a wider audience although it is already enjoying massive airplay on the radio stations.

He acknowledged the support of Global Evangelical Church, singers, Lucy Semenyo and Mercy Andoh for backing him in the studio. Thanks also go to David Kyei on drums.
