Newly contemporary hilife singer, Nash is primed to make his presence felt as he crafts a rhythm that hasn’t been heard of in the Ghanaian music scene with the help of our own ‘bottle breaker producer’, Jay Q. Video: Julie by Nash feat. Castro & Screwface

Nash who has been a frequent vocalist for Amakye Dede when he was in Ghana is being produced by Emmanuel Obeng of Obengnom Records.

The album is packed with equal doses of all the genres of Ghanaian music in mid-tempos and allows listeners to peep his flavor.

For his debut album, Nash stepped into the booth with producers including Jay Q and Agyingo. He hopes to show fans a deeper insight of what he did with artistes like Castro, Screw face, Dr. Poh, Nicey and Shilo .

With a hit video accompanying the hit title track, “Juliana” (which features Castro and Screw face), an upcoming tour in support of his album, and fans, Nash has definitely accomplished what few big artists do accomplish, with just an album.

Rana is an African Pop band of three talented Ghanaian young men. The group consists of Kojo, Kofi and Kobi. Simply call them the triple K.

“We met in Senior High School that was St. Augustine’s College in Cape Coast-Ghana. Back in school we performed on several campuses around the country. After school, we got admissions to different tertiary institutions”, Rana give a brief history about how they met. Video: Me Luv Letter by Rana

Kojo studied Computer Science in Catholic University of Ghana, Kofi studied Agricultural Engineering in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology while Kobi studied English Language in University of Ghana.

In 2004, they approached Appietus, the renowned Ghanaian sound engineer and music producer with their songs.

Seeing the promising nature of ‘Rana’, he signed them to his label, Creative Records. Appietus and Rana don’t joke with education, so members of Rana had to go back to school to complete their various courses.

Thank God for his mercies and our endurance, they are now set to explode worldwide with their maiden album ‘No Limit’ under ‘Creative Records’.

I couldn’t end the article without giving you the meaning of ‘Rana’ which is means ‘The Sun’ in the Hausa language.

“This accounts for our mission to shine worldwide. The sun shines everywhere. Everything is under the sun. You can’t touch it”, Rana said.

Sante (Genevieve Yaa Asantewa Ofori) was born in Brent, North London; she relocated at the age of 4 to Ghana, West Africa. It was In Ghana where Sante’s passion for music flourished. Born into a musical family, her father was one of the founding members and lead vocalist of a group called the Blackbeat and her mother was an active member of many church choirs, with this influence and the opportunity to take piano lessons from a young age, Sante started to create a sound of her own.

Drawing a lot of musical inspiration from classic soul artists, such as Roberta Flack, Dionne Warwick, Lionel Ritchie etc. Sante discovered her love for composing. At the tender age of 13 she started to write her own songs, and went on to perform at various school variety shows, but her drive and passion for music was too strong not to pursue it as a career.

With her cover versions of popular songs by the likes of Mariah Carey, and Mary J. Blige, not only did Sante improve her vocal ability, but found her popularity was increasing rapidly, as people gained a sound appreciation of her musical talents.

All of Sante’s songs are inspired by her life, everything she writes depicts the way she thinks and feels, as she draws upon happy and testing parts of her past and present experiences, all of which have contributed to some of her emotionally charged lyrics.

Sante relocated to the UK at the age of 20, where she formed the group “Pakof3″ along with former secondary school friends Mr. Max and Kay B. Together as a group they have performed at a couple of Ghana Independence day gigs, several clubs across England and Ghana Youth Parties.

Even though Sante was still heavily involved with Pakof3, she furthered her own solo song writing ability, and continued recording her own solo material, with songs like, Still, Misconception, Perfect Tragedy and a touching song written specially for her mother, all of which have been received well and our favourites amongst fellow supporters.

To date Sante has performed at various locations, including Poetry and Motion, Teish O’Day’s Show, Soul City, The Ghana Music Awards, Miss Ghana UK 2008 and most recently The Groove Experience in Norway. She continues to perform and her audience is steadily growing in their appreciation of her work.

Wow, what an evolution” is what most spectators said after seeing Sarkodie perform at JOY 99.7’s annual Old schools reunion recently held in the capital (Accra-Ghana) where he was officially crowned best and fastest lyricist after most radio and television stations were contemplating on a viable contender to his title.

Though he was the hottest artiste on the bill, it was very relevant for the media to originally prove him as the real revelation of the highly ranked Hip-life industry through competition and stage performance.

Most people asked questions like,” where has Sarkodie been hiding?”,” why did Dr. Duncan (Adom 106.3 FM) take long years to groom him?”, “Is Twista faster than Sarkodie?”, ”when is his album coming out?”,” why does he dress so simple and decent?” and lot more after being transitioned from King of underground (battle) Hiplife to best and fastest lyricist in Ghana.

Already, the West African populace has crowned him king of underground mixtapes after he killed DJ Khaled’s “I’m so hood” - (gemifo) and Rick Ross’ “Hustler” - (Tema hustla) beats.

Being aware of the entity with the fastest speed (light), he shares the view of being faster than light with words through constant practice since the already crowned fastest rapper’s eviction is not a challenge to him. He expressed the need to rap fast as a product of making more points of an issue and sending a complete picture of the said topic in few minutes to build a complete but relevant masterpiece.

Sarkodie is a well-known Computer whizz in Tema (industrial city of Ghana-centre of the world) and specializes in system software and applications though he’s got passion for making nature visually impressive (creative and fine arts). Being respectful but outspoken, intelligent but caring, calm but motivating, it was very predictable to be recognized as being very decent and disciplined in the global music industry.

Being highly motivated by Obrafuo’s “Pae Mu Ka” album, the greatest hiplife sensation is yet to release his first album in December 2008 though prospects already indicate his hit tracks like “push”, “Babe, “chat with you and listen are poised to grab foreign awards.

Though he is the first and only corporate musician in the world to have ever performed at an international high forum round table on aid effectiveness, he shares the view that globalization is everyone’s right to grab whiles discovery as an inbuilt potential. He never ends an interview without showing gratitude to his fans, family, friends and management Crew (DUNCWILLS ENTERTAINMENT) for completely molding him to be who he is today.

Ola Dake is from Ghana. He is a worship leader, a song writer, and an award winning architect. He was until recently the pastor in charge of praise and worship at the headquarter church of Victory Bible Church Int. where Bishop N. A. Tackie Yarboi pastors. Video: We Are Here by Ola Dake & The Accra City Mass Choir

For 14 years, he has been leading praise and worship across the country and in the UK and USA .The experiences of his ministry is clearly felt in his maiden album release, MARVELLOUS. The album was recorded live, bringing together the best musicians and singers across the country in an awesome night of praise and worship with praise songs as marvelous, living God, and worship songs like we are here, holy spirit, and worthy ….. these songs were all written in the month of fasting and prayer. A song like ‘We are here’ was received directly in a dream. Ola Dake believes songs should be a direct result of a merry heart to God and a spiritual sacrifice.

The album is currently attracting a global audience as the quality of production equals any international production house. He says one of the work of the holy ghost is destroy the spirit of heaviness and give us the garment of praise to be continually joyful.

His ministrations are characterized by intense spiritual upliftment, brokenness in his presence. zHe believes we should come boldly before the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

The album marvelous will be released in November and will be available in all bookshops and distributors. He is currently pioneering a branch church . He is also the director of TerraCotta a consulting firm and Exceeding Music, a music label that seeks to pioneer a new genre of music .

Now that he has made his announcement on Ghana Music.com, he is sure to have phone buzzing all day than he can handle. For the past twelve years, Poki Rankin has been living this music life. A lyricist to the core, he has a fan base that stretches far overseas and the funny thing is, he’s never released an official solo album.

Through his ventures, his fan base is incredible and he is lauded as one of the best young rappers around just because of his ‘Anago pidgin’ style.

You won’t hear him bragging about material items that he doesn’t own yet in his rap and he keeps it honest which is a rare quality in the Ghanaian music industry today. He rather delves on issues that are suitable for all ages especially the ‘ghetto’ youth.

Arise & Shine is a 12-song collection of hiplife, hiphop, reggae, zouk and whatever music genre, which Lynne composed all but called on artistes like Yaw Sugar, Oboi David, Akua Amah, Nijah Obofuor to lend a helping hand. Watch Video: Yellow Cici by Poky Rankin

Beyond Poki Rankin’s writing, rapping and singing, Poki Rakin is also producing an orphan project, to ensure that orphans are well looked after. “By the end of the year sponsorship deals will be sealed”, Poki Rankin’s manager said.

The newcomer also had a chance of working with Appietus, Jay Q, Hammer, Oteng, and RoRo who were impressed with his talent.

With his single “Yellow Cici” burning up, he obviously is doing something right and more surprises is expected from him as he has scored A+ on the music sheet with his debut album.

The Base Lounge at Osu in Accra has become the centre for new and innovative acts in the city to display their abilities and the latest to walk in with creativity is the Indigenous Groove group led on guitar and vocals by Kojo ‘Sankofa’ Gyan-Apenteng.

The venue will host a listening and pre-launch party of Indigenous Groove’s maiden album Sankofa on Thursday, October 2 from 8.00pm.

Formed around Kojo ‘Sankofa’ Gyan-Apenteng, Afrikan Baby (AB) and Nehanda Rasheedah Gyan-Apenteng, the group is sometimes augmented by other ‘kindred spirits.’ It explores acoustic guitar rhythms flavoured with engrossing African percussion and its repertoire sways between reggae, soul, Rhythm and Blues and Afro-jazz.

A self-taught guitarist, Kojo Sankofa is also a journalist and a poet. Acts he has been associated with before Indigenous Groove came along include Jah Fountain, Shirrinshirinshi and D-Minor.

He hatched the idea to organise the first acoustic music festival in Ghana last year. The group’s other lead singer, Nehanda, is comfortable with a wide variety of vocal styles and often embellishes the Indigenous Groove sound with her versatility.

The underground music scene here is brimming with brilliant, compelling talents like Indigenous Groove and they are anxiously counting the days till October 2 when they unleash their flair for all to see and hear.

That’s a name you’re not likely to have heard before but the trio were the real attraction as they opened the Gang Starz music reality competition on TV3 last Sunday.

Made up of Emmanuel ‘The Boy’ Agbeko, Alberta Naa ‘Binoblings’ Thompson and Emmanuel ‘4nzy’ Agbanyo, they were not part of the contest but they wowed everyone with their fine voices and adorable stagecraft as they rendered their own version of the popular Kojo Antwi piece, Metonko.

The song is one of the tracks from their yet to be released debut album. The group’s name was coined from the first letters of their nicknames.

The trio told Showbiz they sought permission from Kojo Antwi to treat his song their own way and he gladly agreed. According to the group, they later played back their rendition to the Music Maestro and he loved it.

Some TV3 viewers might have made out Binoblings and 4nzy when they appeared on the screen last Sunday because they took part in the station’s Dance Fever contest last year.

Though The Boy did not participate in Dance Fever, he was always around with his friend 4nzy.

The trio said they met during the Dance Fever season and decided to do music because they love to dance, they have always been attracted to music and had ideas about being serious with it.

“We’ve decided to let creative dance be an integral part of our stage shows. We want people to remember not only the songs but also the beautiful dances that go with them,” they said.

“It is a strategy we’ve adopted to sell our music and ourselves.”

Music runs deep in the families of BB4. Binoblings’ father, Afrikabi Aper, is an excellent drummer and the leader of the Bawasaba Band based at the Odo Rhythms Jazz Club in Accra.

Previous groups he has played with include Magic Aliens, Nokoko, Nokoko-Ye and Zonglo Biiz.
“My father constantly told me I had a great voice and must not waste it.

He takes me through singing lessons whenever he can spare the time and helps where I fall short,” Binoblings said.

The Boy also stated that his father, the late Stephen Nuworkpor, played the guitar and at a point worked with a band in Libya. He said his father taught him how to play the guitar.

” What he taught me generally about music is helping me a lot now. It is what I am making use of today.

We write and arrange our own songs so we know what we want and what to expect before we get to the studio.

We do not look up to the sound engineer to create beats or arrange our material for us.”

4nzy said though none of his were seriously into music, they still loved it and his mother is even a leader of an Agdadza group.

“I simply love music and it has been around me since infancy,” he added.

Whilst BB4 enjoyed their moment of fame , the participating groups tried to deal with the bottled up tension which begun to ease as they started to come up stage to perform and hoped they would be retained for the following week.

2HOT, however, were eventually evicted. They performed Rock Steady by the Whispers.

They did fairly well but there were some vocal glitches which the lead singer attributed to a problem with his throat.

Last Sunday’s show took the studio audience and viewers back to the 1980s. Other groups performed songs by artistes such a Kool and the Gang, Madonna, and Marcia Griffiths.

You would have to be on another planet perhaps Jupiter to not have heard of Edem. You would have to be blind to have never seen him and you definitely have to be either lame or old as hell to have never heard “Keva”. The Volta region natives are taking over the country. Watch Video: Teva (Bougez) by Edem feat. Kwaw Kese, Ruth & Sakodie

Edem is steadily making his way to the top of the rap scene in Ghana, and he is about to let the world know what the Ewes too are about.

Rumours tricked in that Hammer was in the music laboratory for long and that he was cooking up something big. And then Ghana Music.com premiered the video of his single of “Keva” and the rest is internet history as he has erupted without warning.

It’s hard for any independent artist to touch him now with only a single that he received.

After helping everyone from Obrafour to Kwaw Kese settle on people’s lips, Hammer of the Last 2 is bored and needs new challenges and wants to start from scratch.

Hammer hopes to invade and flood the music market with videos of the album hopefully this month.
Hammer’s focal point with Edem is to make a bigger history than what he did with Obrafour, Tinny and Kwaw Kese as he has sweated profusely for 2 years on “The Volta Regime”.

Edem’s Ewe vocal style relies heavily on his accent being distinctive and unique in the rap game as he is heavily backed by Hammer who produced the whole hiphop album and it is Hammer infectious beats that make the album come alive.

Hammer doesn’t mess with artists that are just artists; he messes with superstars and has been able to turn Edem into a hiphop rapper and singer.

Hammer’s music friends King Ayisoba, Sarkodie, Ruth, Samini and last 2 soldiers Tinny, Kwaw Kese and Obrafour and Ayisoba voices were heard on the 19 track album.
