As we try to recover from the global credit crunch, it appears that TV3's Mentor 4 is having it own kind of credibility crunch; as for the second week running, contestants failed to rake in more stars with their performances. By now we all know of the new scoring systems introduced on Mentor where by based on performances of the contestants, judges rate them out of 5 stars.I thought the performances from the first week were average but after seeing this weekend's show I think last week's was way better.
Most of the contestants were very nasal this week and it seems that the harmattan has taken its heavy tow on them. Maybe they need some Ahomka Ginger instead of Tom Tom.
Anyway, there were some individual moments of brilliance but generally I am yet to connect with the contestants. So far they are all forgettable in terms of performances but Chris may stand out for his unusual swagger. But knowing the people who have followed the Mentor series since it began, I doubt that his swag will win them over.
These are early days yet. By the way, after missing out on last week's show, the incorrigible resident judge, Mark Okraku Mantey made his first appearance on the show. No wonder the score were so low this week, he even pulled out 1-star a couple of times on some of the contestants. Sometimes, they deserved the low marks and other times, it was just Mark's way of getting more attention for himself as usual. I guess that's how the Grinch of Mentor stole Christmas for most of the contestants. However the real heartbreak will happen on Thursday's special Christmas show when two contestants will be evicted. Good luck and a merry Christmas to all of the contestants.
