Obour accused of double standards on politics

How can the president of the Musicians union in Ghana Bice Osei Kuffour keep double standards in his statements. On a grand music awards stage, he declared openly that musicians now have the full support of Musiga to involve themselves in politics anytime they wish to do so.

According to the university don, he feels it is now time for every musician who feels like doing something for a politician to go ahead and make some monies into his accounts especially in this campaign season.

This declaration was made at the same time that the executives of the strongest musicians union in Ghana are about to embark on a nation wide tour to speak with regional members of the union.

Whether musicians can do business with politicians or not is a debate which has been on going for the past years but after the declaration was made on the biggest music platform, many musicians have now gotten the encouragement to push ahead to approach the politicians for business.

The double standard came in when the president was answering questions on Happy fm`s flagship entertainment programme Showbiz Xtra with Kwabena Boafo aka K.B.

Currently, there are rumours in town that the executive tour that the musicians union is about embarking has some political undertones. A cross section of the public believe that in their bid to meet the executives, they will be campaigning for a political party alongside but like stated earlier, it will be done undertone.

K.B in an interview with Obour asked him to verify that statement but Obour angrily warned KB not to go to that direction since he is on an entertainment platform. Mr. President, may be you missed something on that day since you also made a political statement on a pure and grand entertainment stage. Out of anger, the music president refused to answer the question and went off air.

His actions was repelled by some pundits in the entertainment industry, including DJ Flexy of Y-fm and ETV fame. Sally, public relations person of Paradise Entertainment also made a similar statement rebuking Obour for neglecting that particular question. “What Obour did has rather worsened the allegations making the rounds because I was sitting with some people last nite when they also made a similar statement that Obour is using his portfolio to amass wealth for himself and his interest only.

The way he has answered the question will rather make people feel that the speculations moving around can be the truth and nothing else. He should come again next time please” Sally`s words.

If Obour is asking musicians to do business with politicians and he will run away from a political question, then indeed he is being a coward and maintaining double standards in this political business.

He should be bold and declare where he stands so the musicians he leads can also make a firm decision to follow some of these politicians to make some cash for themselves. We need courageous leaders please!!!
