Joris Jungly aka Jay-J is an Atlanta based pop/reggae artist originally from Accra, Ghana. Jay-J has been on the songwriting circuit in the ATL for several years co-writing songs for some of your favorite artists.
He describes his music as a blend of reggae and r&b, sprinkled with the glitz and glamour of pop.
Jungly is one of those rare enigmatic artists with an equally intriguing background in academia.
The singer/songwriter holds a Bachelors degree in Pure Mathematics and a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics.
According to Jay-J, math and music are closely related (“There are many things in music that are obviously math-related, and many musical notions can be explained in numbers. I think of music as a way to listen to numbers, to bring them into the real world of our senses.”)
Jay-J had all but given up on his musical dreams until a 2007 incident put his life’s purpose in proper perspective. On August 30th, he was ambushed by an assailant at a Sandy Springs apartment complex.
The botched robbery went terribly wrong when Jay-J refused to comply with the gunman and took off running. Several shot were fired, some barely grazing the singer’s head.
As he put it: “ I just realized life was so unpredictable, it made no sense to conform to someone else’s ideals. I had to go all out and make things happen.” Mr. Jungly recently wrapped up work on his debut album entitled “ I Jungly “ scheduled for released in Japan, Europe, Canada, and Africa in early January 2011 under the Raboni Music label.
The album, produced by Atlanta based hit maker Stylz Keyz, boasts 12 tracks that run the gamut of musical emotions.
Every month starting n January through June, the artist will release a music video, culminating in a summer tour of Africa and Europe.
Jungly recently recorded a track featuring a famous rapper which he plans to keep a secret until December of 2011.
From the look of things, this new comer is poised to break out as the 1st international superstar to ever launch a career out of Africa.
