A family source disclosed that the final funeral rite is expected to come off in Accra on Saturday October 4, but it was not readily known whether his remains would be interred in Accra or sent to Kwahu Mpraeso, his hometown in the Eastern Region. Michael who was also called Papa Owusu passed away in a Texas hospital in the USA on Monday July 28, shortly after complaining of stomachache.
The news about his death came as a shock to many Ghanaian music enthusiasts as well as the general public, at a time when they were enjoying his hit song “Ngozi”. Earlier, another family source had told Beatwaves that two funerals would be organized for the musician in the United States prior to the flying of his remains home. The first was to be in Texas while the second was to be in New York.
Michael, before his sad death was in Ghana to promote his song. Beatwaves last spotted him at the MTN 2008 Ghana Music Awards. He also graced Ben Brako’s album launch.
Michael was also warming the music scene with his ‘Ngozi’ song until death laid its icy hands on him. There were also rumours that the highlife star was working on meeting international hiphop star Snoop Dog for a likely ‘collabo’ but this, unfortunately, never materialised.
