Narrating her story to Showbiz, Grace said “There were five of us in my car and I was the one driving. As we got to a hill near the Agape Bible College, the engine stalled.

“At that point those in the car decided to get off and check the engine. For that to be done, I had to open my door to enable my son to pull the lever for opening the bonnet.

According to Grace who was wearing plaster casting on her left leg, “the car was in the free gear. All of a sudden the car started moving and gathering speed as it went downhill. With me alone in the car, it looked as though the car was flying while passers-by cried and looked on helplessly.

“Later when I attempted to control the steering wheel, I fell out of the car because the door had been left open and as it landed in a ditch, my leg got trapped under the car.

Showing her broken leg and some of the bruises she suffered at her back as a result of the accident, Grace said her dress was in tatters as good samaritans came to her aid, tilted the vehicle and pulled her up.

She said that she had still not come to terms with the accident and counted herself lucky to be alive and well.

“I thought I was going to die and started praying to God for divine intervention. This is an experience I’ll never forget. I can now relate with most people who survive accidents and undergo trauma. I was lucky to have survived with a broken leg,” she said with a smile.

Grace Ashy jumped unto the music scene in 2001 with her maiden album, Me hwe wo Awurade with the hit song, Adea Yesu to be followed in 2002 with another album with the hit Minuntso Yesu. Grace has become associated not only with gospel songs but patriotic songs as well.

She released the album Adom with the hit, I am in your Presence and when the Black Stars qualified for the World Cup in 2006, Grace was ready with Yennie to support the national team.

During the celebration of Ghana’s 50th Anniversary, Grace was there again with a song Ghana Da W’ase. She also released a song to champion the cause of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) when it was introduced in 2006.
