Reggae artiste and radio presenter, Blakk Rasta, is due to leave Accra on June 19 for Kingston, Jamaica where he will film a segment of a new video he is doing for his Barack Obama song.
Blakk Rasta’s song came out in February in support of the Senator from Illinois when he was in a hard tussle with Hilary Clinton for nomination as the Democratic candidate for the United States presidential election in November.
The song caught attention in this country and elsewhere, prompting the BBC, CNN and other international news networks to look him up for interviews.
The Hitz FM presenter who has met some members of Senator Obama’s campaign team currently visiting the country, said he is extremely happy that the song is appreciated in a lot of places across the world. “We are getting calls from Canada, United States and Europe from people who want to distribute the song in those places.”
A video on the Barack Obama song has been airing on some of the television stations here. Blakk Rasta told Showbiz the new video is to help sustain the momentum and interest generated in Obama’s campaign since the release of the song.
“We are still pushing on to get him elected President of the United States and the new video will, hopefully, help win over some more people for the good cause.”
Blakk Rasta said though Obama has roots in Kenya and it would have been lovely to shoot some of the material there, the director of the project selected Jamaica because the island has certain beautiful natural locations which he very much wants to incorporate in the video.
“We have some footage from Kenya which will be included during editing so the video will have scenes from Ghana, Jamaica and Kenya.”
Blakk Rasta was recently signed on to the Madhaus Entertainment label and hinted that the Barack Obama song, which was recorded by ace engineer Zapp Mallet, will be included on his new album called The Naked Wire which will be out before the end of July.
A graduate in Land Economy from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Blakk Rasta already has four reggae albums under his belt.
His track, Congo Bongo from the More Fyah album, won him the Best Reggae Song at the 2004 Ghana Music Awards.
Blakk Rasta will be accompanied on the Jamaican trip by the video director and three other people who took part in the original video. They will be away for a week.
