The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Mrs Diana Hopson last week Friday could no longer conceal her outrage and boldly voiced out her total abhorrence of profanity and obscenity, during the MTN Music Awards.
She noted unreservedly that the costumes on display and styles of dancing would have been better for a night club and not a big entertainment like the MTN awards.
Her comments came after 4 x 4 (one of the musical groups), brought on stage bum-shaking girls, indecently dressed with their bodies virtually half-naked.
Mrs Hopson made the remarks when she went on stage to present an award to one of the award winners.
She observed that it was sad to see some Ghanaian ladies almost naked. They seemed to have either forgotten or thrown away African cultural values considering the exotic nature of their costumes and style of dancing.
The awards ceremony which could be described as one of the biggest entertainment events held in recent times had a lot of surprises for people, as fans cheered some winners and booed at a few others to register their satisfaction or protest respectively.
A number of fans openly expressed their unhappy feeling about the failure of some award winners like Ohemaa Mercy and CEE to attend the ceremony to personally receive their awards.
The MTN Music Awards afforded music enthusiasts an opportunity to enjoy live performances from artistes they admired.
People stood up to dance when their favourite artistes like Shasha Marley, Lenny Akpadie, and Samini who was a Co-Mc (Master of ceremony) came on to perform. Fans used their camera and mobile phones to take pictures and record performances. Some foreign artistes, namely Namelies from Kenya P-Square from Nigeria and Jah Rule from the US also performed.
The event was well-attended, as all seats were occupied and yet a good number of people had to stand because they could not get seats.
