Kwaw KeseAt long last the 2008 9th edition of Ghana Music Awards, honouring the most recognizable names in the Ghana music industry has come and gone.

The star-studded affair was held at the at the National Theatre last Friday with special guest performances by hip-hop artiste, Ja Rule, P Square, Nameless and other local artistes.

Dubbed by the media as “the Grammy Awards of Ghana,” the show set a new standard in Ghana when MTN, title sponsors of GMA added substantial cash awards for every winner in the competitive categories.

Yours truly Ghana Music.com ran an online poll a month prior to the event. (Take a close look at the poll again). Our numerous visitors got it right when they predicted that Kwaw Kese will emerge with the top trophy - Artiste of the Year Award - with 35% of the total votes.

Other predicted winners according to the online polls who actually won awards included the following:

Album of the Year - Ohenmaa Mercy with 37% of the total votes.

Record of of the Year - Sugar by Becca with 53% of the total votes.

Highlife Artiste of the Year - Ofori Amponsah with 39% of the total votes.

Hiplife Song of the Year - Odiem by Kwaw Kesse with 37% of the total votes.

Hiplife Artiste of the Year - Kwaw Kese with 54% of the total votes.

Hiplife Album of the Year - Abodam 2007 by Kwaw Kese with 53% of the total votes.

Gospel Artiste of the Year - Ohenmaa Mercy with 58% of the total votes.

Gospel Album of the Year - Edin Jesus by Ohenmaa Mercy with 69% of the total votes.

Reggae Song of the Year - Maata Family by Shasha Marley with 45% of the total votes.
