The Ghana Association of Phonographic Industry (GAPI), made up of music producers and record owners in the country, yesterday boycotted the MTN Ghana Music Awards held at the National Theatre in Accra.

According to the association, it was not happy about the way the Ghana Music Awards was being organized by Charter House.

A statement issued and signed by chairman of the association, John Mensah Sarpong warned that until the organizers streamline its programme and involve GAPI in the nomination processes, none of its artistes should be nominated for any awards in future.

It stated that the association found it strange that in spite of the massive investment injected into the production of musical works by its members, this year’s Ghana Music Awards nomination of the Record Label of the year awarded to Kwaw Kese’s Madtime Entertainment, which is even not registered, leaves much to be desired.

The statement drew the attention of the award organizers to the fact that some members of the association have to their credit several musical albums that are released which have made a lot of impact.

It said a lot of protests about the organizers’ disregard for the association have been treated with impunity, and there have been several instances where the association’s involvement in the nomination processes has been minimal or ignored, which the statement described as a big insult to its intelligence.
