Charterhouse lies about Ja Rule cause

Ja RuleMs. Abena Turkson, Public Relations Officer of Charterhouse, Event Organisers, Ghana Music Awards (GMA) few weeks ago told Radio Gold’s Solid Gold Countdown that Ja Rule’s coming is based on a social cause but Ghanaians are yet to be told exactly what the so-called cause is all about.

With only two days to the main event, it’s clear there is no social cause and Ja Rule will be coming chiefly on a commercial trip.

Not only is Ja Rule going to take our attention from the local artists, he is as well going to be paid more than all the Ghanaian musicians put together. No one has qualms with Ja Rule’s coming, after all he is one of us, thanks to slavery, but the issue remains; can’t Ja Rule’s show stand on its own?

Why should an international artist come to Ghana only to fly on the wings of Ghana Music Awards? Isn’t he popular enough to fill the National Theartre? It makes Charterhouse look like they are trying too hard to sell a has-been.

Ghanaian musicians, most of whom are managed by not-so-pro managers will be the big losers in this as Ja Rule takes the lion’s share of the attention that comes with the event. The local artists as usual are gonna play second fiddle to these so-called international stars who more often than not only come into this country, do business tax-free and go back richer.

Like it or not, Ghana Music Awards has come to stay and this weekend will be a spectacular one as far as Ghanaian music is concerned as showbiz stars get ready for red carpet treatment. Except we are to know what Ja Rule is really going to add to this year’s Ghana Music Awards? A social cause may be…may be not.
