New R&B sensation Becca has been laughing ha-ha-ha since she learnt that TV3 had allegedly placed a ban on her appearance on that television channel.
She told Showbiz that she does not have any grudge with TV3 following the misunderstanding they had over her participation in their Mentor 2 reality show.
She said that whatever happened between her and TV3 has rather helped take television reality shows a step higher and therefore she is surprised that TV3 has decided to be petty over something that happened two years ago.
Becca was reacting to the news that TV3 had refused to air an independent production Entertainment Today last Sunday because there was a segment involving an interview with her.
Entertainment Today is produced by Eagle Productions and shown on TV3 on Sundays. A source at Eagle Productions confirmed that last Sunday’s episode was not aired because an official at the Programmes Department of TV3 told them they could not put the programme on air because it contained an interview with Becca.
“We have edited the episode and returning it to TV3 to enable them show it this Sunday,” the source said. No official at TV3 would respond to Showbiz enquiries.
Becca was one of the original contestants for Mentor 2 but pulled out because she was not comfortable with the contract binding participants of the reality show. It appears all has not been well between her and TV3 after that incident. Watch Video: Sugar by Becca that was banned by GTV sometime last year.
Becca’s is the second time that TV3 has demonstrated open bias against a Ghanaian artiste. Sometime last year, Irene logan, winner of the maiden edition of Stars of the Future who teamed up with her first runner-up Jane Awindor to form the duo Irene and Jane also suffered a similar fate with TV3 when the station refused to air the music video of their song Heated It Up. Irene told Showbiz then that she was surprised and disappointed that TV3 refused to show her video, “It’s on the other three television networks and I had hoped TV3 would also show it so that more people will see it. I watch Mentor and I like it but if TV3 says it cannot show something connected in any way to Stars of the Future, then there is nothing Jane and I can do about that.”
According to Fred Darko, Head of Event Productions at Charterhouse, he delivered a copy of Irene’s video and a cheque to cover payment for airing for one month to TV3 and they were duly accepted.
After waiting for a while and not seeing the video on TV3, he made an enquiry and was informed that the station would not play the video because it was from Charterhouse, a company with a music talent hunt product similar to Mentor. His cheque and video were returned to him.
