The second phase of the ninth GMA dubbed Ghana Music Awards open forum came off at the Alisa Hotel, Ridge. The open forum was step by Charter House to intake opinions, contributions, suggestions and ideas of stakeholders in the Ghanaian music industry.
On the high table was Diana Hopson, President of the Musicians Union Association (MUSIGA), Amandzeba Nat Brew, Fred K. Mensah (Fredyma), sound engineer, Nii Ayitey Hammond and Juno Abena-Turkson, all of Charter House Ghana.
Participants that thronged to the forum also nominated artistes that qualified within the music calendar year for Ghana Music Awards 2008.
All the categories for Ghana Music Awards was well defined by Juno (PR/Media executive for Charter house Ghana) before nominations and suggested were made.
New hiplife/R&B, singer, Veeda disagreed with some of the nominations that were made. She made a valid point that when two or more artistes come together to do a song and can be on both albums.
“Basically, collaboration means when two artistes get together to write a song. The song belongs to both of them. Basically it’s the words ‘and’ and ‘featuring’ that makes the difference. After the song is done, they can both decide to put on both albums. An example I wanna make is Jay Z and R. Kelly’s “Best of Both Worlds” and Bow Wow and Omarion “Face Off”. ”, Veeda said.
After Veeda went off, Okyeame Quophi came behind the mic and also said then all the awards they have been giving for the past 8 years were all wrong.
Other nominations that was well received was Becca’s “U Lied To Me” with Kwabena Kwabena, 4×4’s “Hot Girls.com” with Fresh Prince and Cee’s “Osabarima” with Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong and Isaac (Show boy) of Mentor I.
So now it’s clear that songs like Ofori’s Amponsah “Odwo” featuring Batman Samini will be disqualified unless Ofori Amponsah comes out to publicly to say he collaborated with Samini but did not feature him.
People that were seated were radio and TV Presenters, entertainment journalists, producers, distributors and a few.
The conclusion of the Greater Accra Ghana Music Awards forum will be submitted to the Planning Committee of GMA. So officially the nominees for the Ghana Music Awards 2008 are not out as speculated in some media houses.
