One of Ghana’s most prolific Gospel Musicians, Ohemaa Mercy, on Tuesday made the secret behind her success known to Weekend Crusading GUIDE at her Spintex Road residence, near the Accra-Tema-Motorway.
In an exclusive interview, Ohemaa Mercy described herself as God-sent, adding that she is obedient, respectful, a soul winner, disciplined and resolved.
Mercy disclosed that her whole secret is God. “It is God who has given me the gift of a good voice to sing to heal the sick, the weak in spirit, the oppressed and many others who are in trouble”, she underscored.
Again, she said that prayers and bible studies are activities that ginger her on. “I am always in tune with God for a message to be delivered to the people through songs”.
According to her, she had been in the music industry for four years with so many challenges.
She intimated that before she entered the music industry, she faced so many challenges especially, discouragement from radio presenters, old gospel artistes and many other acquaintances. Ohemaa said she encountered the problem of getting sponsorship and a producer.
Continuing, she said, she thought it was easier after entering the industry, but she realised that it becomes very laborious after entering the music field. She posited that some pastors are of the opinion that it is wrong to charge them (pastors) any amount of money when invited to perform in their churches, “but even most of them earn a living through their pastoral work”, she maintained.
Ohemaa Mercy, is married for six years now to Isaac Twum-Ampofo, with two boys, Kelvin and Enshira Twum-Ampofo.
She met Isaac at a studio where they both went to do a “demo” separately.
Isaac, a charming young man, said they were both at SDA Training College at Koforidua in the Eastern Region where he led Ohemaa by one year, and therefore both of them are professional teachers.
When asked about where they fellowship, Mercy said they worship at Glorious Wave Church at Sakumono, near Tema.
Her advice to the new and young gospel artistes was that they should seek the face of God for direction because “God owns all things and with Him, all things are possible”.
