There will be a presentation of Neo-classical and contemporary African music at the Dansoman campus of the Methodist University College of Ghana next Saturday and Sunday at a fundraising concert for the university’s Students Representative Council (SRC).
Dubbed the African Music Concert and Gospel Rock Show, the two-day programme has been put together by the SRC and Azonko Synchronisations Limited (A-Synchro).
The shows would be held at the hall of the Southern Wing of the Faculty Block from 7.00pm.
Proceeds would go into the acquisition of a bus for the SRC and also help speed up A-Synchro’s Ghana’s Golden Orchestral Delight (G.G.O.D.) Volume 1 project.
The G.G.O.D. Volume 1 is a projected recording of a fusion of neo-classical African and Western symphonic elements with rock and traditional African traits.
Azonko Simpi, the brain behind the concert and the G.G.O.D. project has a degree in Music from the University of Cape Coast.
He is also a sound recording engineer and composer of film music. The two nights, he indicated, would feature a wide range of performances from Kyeremanteng the ‘seprewa’ master, the Azonko Ensemble, ET Mensah Jnr and the Tempos Chapter, trumpeter Mac Tontoh, pianist Emmanuel Boamah and singer Nana Dansua.
Azonko and his Imaginary Orchestra would also play excerpts from the G.G.O.D. Volume 1 project, which ranges from re-arranged Ghanaian folk tunes to a special rendition of Beethoven’s Fur Elise.
The African Music Concert and Gospel Rock Show is sponsored by Toyota, Horizon Leasing, Buy Media, Donewell Insurance, FC Perfumery and others.
