The decision by government to improve the financial literacy level of Ghanaians has been given a boost with the launch of an album titled Shares For Sale”.

“Shares For Sale” is an album recorded with the ultimate objective to promulgate the importance and benefits of investment and help create a nation of educated young investors through music

Ruky, a graduate from the University of Cape coast whose hit single “Ten Times a Day” is enjoying a considerable amount of air play and has also earned him respect among fellow rap heavyweights like Okyeame Quame, Kwaw Kese and Obour.

The album has educative interludes on investment and the title track “Buy Some Shares” is a song that seeks to advice young Ghanaians not to live extravagant lifestyles but rather invest their money in shares for a better future.

The project which has received rave reviews from some executives in the financial sector has an advisory board comprising of selected individuals from the securities, banking and music industry.

To ensure the commercial success of the album, one of Ghana’s most respected musicians Nana Fynn was featured on the album. Other musicians who featured include Ebo’o, Jesto and Yaa P.

Apart from the title track “Buy Some Shares”, other songs on the album that are expected to do well include “Lonely”, “No Visa” and “Ten Times A Day remix”.

“Am very excited about this project, it has allowed me to use my talent and interest in stock markets to help educate fellow young Ghanaians on the importance and benefits of investing. I see it more as a national assignment because there has been a consistent call by both government and the private sector to promote the capital market as a viable alternative in the fight against poverty and help Ghanaians create wealth”, Ruky said.

Ruky who maintains a corporate image on stage and at all public appearances will also outdoor branded t-shirts with embossed messages such as “buy shares, investment in shares pays, I love the stock market, create wealth” etc.

He also have plans of doing free for all seminars on the importance of saving and investment which will be organized at selected senior high schools with resource persons drawn from the Ghana Stock Exchange, banks and expects from the securities houses. Other renowned Ghanaian musicians will grace these seminars to ensure large attendance.

“The strategy is to release an album that has a great deal of youth and commercial appeal to create a music icon and personality for subsequent investment advocacy campaign”, Kobby Nyadu, a member of Ruky’s management team said.

The launch of the album which has been scheduled to take place in March 2008 is expected to coincide with the Ghana Financial Literacy week, a new government initiative which was outlined in the 2008 budget statement.

“Shares For Sale” is an initiative of Stockrush Foundation, a non profit making organization dedicated to providing investment education and information to help young Ghanaians become successful lifetime investors and Soul Records one of Ghana’s renowned music promotion outfit.
