DJ Amess, Castro’s manager has sent showghana.com a written response to an article we posted on Wednesday 6th June, 2007. Read the letter in full below.
I write in disagreement with an article, which was supposed to have been written by one Mr. Henry Adjie under above topic. Even though he is expressing his personal opinion under the disguise of FREEDOM OF SPEECH, which he is entitled to.
In fact in attempt to dwell on what’s up in the music industry, he made a lot of factual misrepresentations that goes to show that he is not on top of whatever he trying to tell the public. I don’t know if Henry has taken the pains to ask or research into music purchase in this country. Since the days when people think highlife was well accepted in our dear country how much sales were they making? The truth is that people just listen and appreciate good music but do not necessarily purchasing them.
It is true that we might have had problems with our distribution system but I believe that the problem is not as useless as Henry want us to believe. Has he taken the trouble to check how piracy is killing the industry slowly? What about payola and the high cost of video promotion? I think we must be circumspect in our presentation.
In any case who told him (Henry) that Castro has handed down some bad stuff as he wanted the public to believe? Go to any vendor or distributors of Castro and ask how the album is doing. Even though this album has not got the needed promotion we intended to give it is doing well.
Toffee was classic by all standards but after three years what do you expect the musician to do? Wait till when? I think this time around you got it wrong. I don’t know if he is talking about the quality of the song: lyrics wise? Then I think my friend need to abreast himself with what it takes to release an album but not a long silence.
We all agree that there are numerous problems facing the industry but if people choose to ignore that by trying to use the short cut to advance their own agenda, am afraid it will back fire.
