This year’s edition of the reality show was officially launched at the National Theatre in Accra last Friday.
The colourful ceremony which was to introduce contestants of the competition to the public, was used as well to officially launch the music category of the competition which began last year.
The ultimate aim of the programme which is out to harness musical talents, build and sustain social confidence in the youth to enable them perform well in whatever field they may find themselves, is to produce another star who would take the Ghanaian music industry to another level.
After hectic screening in some regions, the resident judges selected twelve contestants, each of which is going all-out and aiming to take up the mandate from Irene Logan.
Whoever emerges winner of this year’s competition, would drive home a sleek VW Polo salon car from Universal Motors as well as earn a recording contract. Stars of the Future 2007 is sponsored by Areeba, Universal Motors, Close Up, LG and Castle Milk Stout.
It is organised by Ghana’s biggest event organizer, Charterhouse, like last year’s.
The 12 finalists are Ishmael Koranteng, Daniel Adobaw, Sandra Huson, Fredrica Sarfo, Justice Owen, Benjamin Akill, Clare Asigri, Ernest Darkwa, Isaac Nortey, Noble Nii Nortey, Daniel Twum and Betty Osei.
This launch witnessed the first public performances of each of the 12 music stars and the beginning of 13 weeks of Stars of the Future Reality TV series on GTV and Metro TV.
On GTV, the series airs on Sundays, 3:30pm - 4:30pm, Tuesdays, 9:30am - 10:30am (repeat), Wednesdays - 8:30pm - 9:00pm and Fridays, 8:30pm - 9:00pm. On Metro TV, Stars of the Future airs at 7pm on Saturdays, with a repeat on Mondays from 9am – 10am.
