It’s the final countdown and only two remain so make sure you do not miss the Idols West Africa finals at Planet One this Sunday at 6pm on MNET. There will be great music, tension, suspense and maybe even a few tears as Timi and Omowomi battle for the historic title of Idols West Africa.
Despite the fact that Ghana does not have any contestants in Idols West Africa, Timi Dakolo has won the hearts of many Ghanaians with his soulful voice and maybe this is because he is half Ghanaian on his mother’s side. Timi was born in Ghana but left at the tender age of 9 months, to move to Nigeria with his mother and Nigerian father. In a telephone interview, he confirmed that he has a family in Accra, including a Ghanaian grandmother, whom he cannot remember. His road to stardom has been a bumpy one. His childhood was humble and rough: he grew up with his grandmother and hawked wares to support the house but he also learned how to sing from his Nigerian grandmother, who sang to him everyday as a child.
Timi knew when his name was called out for the Top 10 that Idols West Africa was changing his life for good. He touched many hearts as he wept tears of joy proclaiming that he owes his life to the fans that voted him through. He counts being told that his place in this life is on the stage by ‘Judge Dread’ – Dede Mabiaku – as a major highlight.
This young man of 26 from Bayelsa State in Nigeria seems pegged to go far, but Omowomi, the young, outspoken lawyer from Delta State who makes singing look so effortless is also a hot favourite.
Don’t forget that the voting system has changed in the final week of Idols West Africa. Voting lines are open from Monday 21 May at 20:30 (CAT) and close on Saturday 26 May at 12:00 (CAT).
To vote for Omawumi TEXT 10 (and only the number ‘10’) and to vote for Timi TEXT 7 (and only the number ‘7’) to Areeba (1444), Kasapa (15626) and Tigo/One Touch (15626).
