Ghanaian artistes in general, lag behind when it comes to the making of music videos. Many producers as well as the artistes are ignorant of how well music videos contribute to the sales of their albums.
In other countries, it’s almost mandatory to make about two or three videos to your album and it does catapult sales, especially when the video depicts the right message with the appropriate sound and settings.
In Ghana, artistes don’t easily make videos and this can partly be attributed to the cost involved, but then, it pays when the video is of sublime quality. A lot of Ghanaian music videos produced are mediocre and the few good ones wait until the airplay and popularity of the songs have dwindled before coming out with videos and this has no meaningful impact.
Artistes who release their songs and music videos coherently always reap excellent results. Videos of Buk Bak’s ‘Komi Ke Kena’, Obuor’s ‘Meho Ye Hu’, Nana Fynn’s ‘Menkoaa’ and many others are attestation of the claim.
Over here, there aren’t any medium where much precedence is given to only music videos like Channel O and MTV. Advertising cycle on Metro TV which use to showcase such videos has slumped woefully with the same songs showing for weeks. The thirty minute Hitz-Video on TV3 isn’t good enough because it’s more of a request show and the same goes for Viewers Choice and Music For You on TV Africa and GTV respectively.
But hold on; there’s something good out of Nazareth and it’s Track Haus on GTV. Kudos to all those behind the programme because it scores in every aspect; the time of telecast, the duration of the show the music videos, as well as the presentation.
If more programmes like Track Haus are on, then artistes will be assured of a medium to propagate their videos and even help channel them through the likes of Channel O and MTV.
For now, Reggie Rockstone and David K. Boltonare the only Ghanaians to make appearances on Channel O and if they’ve done it, then any other artiste can.
