The rate at which tragedy is befalling our local artistes through motor accidents is on the rise and the causative agent must be explored and checked appropriately.
I couldn’t have agreed more with the ‘Mirror’ reporter, William Asiedu when he expressed the sentiments of our artistes being properly managed by their producers and managers. Many cannot come to terms with the fact that, we nearly lost another young, enterprising star in the name of Obuor, when we’ve not even finished grieving over the death of Bonchaka.
This compels me to make ‘wild’ comparisom as to why the likes of Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Madonna and the rest, commenced their careers as youngsters and still live on, whiles our local artistes pass away at tender ages. It all boils down to management.
If one chooses to manage an artiste, he’s got to take care of not only album sales and the money-generating shows, but his upkeep as well as his mobility. He even has to check the diet of the artiste, his sleeping time prior and after shows, as well as the number of shows his client performs at a stipulated time.
In their quest to make more money these artistes are billed to perform in so many shows within a week and within a day, thus they’ve inadequate time for respite.
In Terry’s case, after expending a lot of energy at the Legon show, he was in a haste to perform at another show.
The producers and managers of these artistes must not only provide cars, but chauffeurs as well. Some artistes are not poorly managed to the extent that, they rent clothes to perform at various shows.
Most artistes don’t even have bodyguards to ensure their safety when they go out there to perform, and in any bad day, where the artiste lives up to expectation, the irate audiences are capable of anything.
The managers and producers ought to protect our artistes in every sense of the word, because the artiste’s rise to stardom brings glory and money to the managers as well.
